Use the harness from that engine and the computer for that engine as well.

Yeah, it's motronic 1.1. the '86 is jetronic.. The engine harness needs to be compatible as w3ll

            87-91 E30 325i uses the Motronic 1.3 173 and like 154 i think ECU, just swap the harness from a 88 528e or 87-91 325i
the 528e uses 1.1 and the ECU changes it directly to 1.3 with the same harness.
you will need to change your pistons and rods for decent compression
I have the complete stroker long block if you are interested, im in Stockton area of CA.

You guys are confusing the hell out of him. 84-87 eta's are motronic 1.0 he just needs the C101 digram. Here is the only one's I have. I used them to wire and 89 325i harness to my 84 c101 plug.

These should be close enough to help you out. Here is the 325i C101

Here is the Eta C101's save these images ASAP.

The 86 eta is definitely not jetronic, BMW hasn't used L-jetronic since pre 5/1982 with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions. Hell, my '81 635CSi uses Motronic...My '84 eta has motronic as well...

mcgrath is right, ya'll posting a bunch of weird stuff.

Not all c101's are the same, but most are.. If you have trouble, I can trace any c101 you need if i've got time to do it.

edit: you will also have to tap your c104 into the engine harness (or run it all the way up to your c101). Its the 3 pin plug in the glove compartment.

                          This might help as well.

ok, Ya Just splice pin 7 to pin 7 on the 2 harnesses, They just call it different things in the ETM
Pin 14 I wouldn't worry about, as I don't think there is any where on the 86 to splice it in
Pin 15 for the unloader relay, The I cars use 3 wires on the starter sometimes instead of 2, You'll want to splice pin 15 to pin 18(black yellow wire for the starter).
                          And then on the c104
splice pin 3 to pin 8 on the 91's c101(MPG guage in the cluster)

As for pin 20, I've yet to find the function in the ETM, it shows the wire but it doesn't go to anything.

Sorry for not getting back with you, I've been super busy.
Your c104 plug has 3 wires
                          Pin #1 Black Wire-Engine speed
Pin #2 green wire-OBC Fuel cut function
                          Pin #3 Yellow/White wire-Fuel rate
On the 89 harness you'll need to splice or connect the following wires to the ones on the c104.
                          Pin # 3 from c104 to Pin 8 on the c101 of your 89(Yellow/White or White/Black wire)
Pin #2 from the c104, run a wire from directly to the + terminal on the coil(Green wire)
Pin #1 from the c104 to pin 9 on the c101(black wire)

i have a quick question, would an 87 325e harness work?
just swap the ecu? would the ecu plug in?

No, the e plug and the I plug are different, not to mention the fact that the e harness has very little in common with an i.

They pop up for pretty cheap sometimes.
