I saw your car at The Vintage, I think that made 3 of us with m30 swaps. Looked really good, just wish you had gotten on it a little harder when you left the venue lol.

May be a dumb question, but what does o-ringing the block do?

The wire around the bores bite into the gasket. Holding it in place.
Normally it would bend out preventing damage but with o-ring yolo

And instead of relying on layers of compressed steel with the MLS gasket you have more of a mechanical seal.

It also allows you to use an affordable oem style head gasket versus the $200+ Cometic.

Interesting. Does it allow you to run higher boost levels with an oem gasket and studs?

Sorry for the lengthy time away. I haven't been on here much over the last two years due to life changes and building a business. But yes there has been progress.

Mainly I went back and forth between o-ringing my block or using a cut-ring head gasket. I ended up going with the cut-ring head gasket as it was not as intrusive on the block and offers a superior combustion chamber seal. For those of you who don't know, the cut-ring gasket looks and feels just like a factory head gasket but rather than the built in fire rings around each cylinder it uses ,I assume, copper rings that bite into the head slightly. I've been running the car with this head gasket setup for about 9 months now and haven't seen the slightest hint of combustion gases in the coolant or any other issues like I had with the MLS.

SO, the update is that the car is back together and I drive the piss out of it as often as I can. Luckily I have a X5 now that serves as my DD so the E30 can chill out in the garage until I am ready to beat on it.
