Pulled head to replace head gasket.....Doh!

So I just got a call from the machine shop... the head is toast.

    I have an e30
    1990 325i sedan
    manual
    clean title.

i was going to sell the car....
options are to sell as is.. how much can i get for it?
part it out, it has a zender body kit in fair condition and a bbs rear spoiler
has some after market period correct wheels made in Germany.
buy a used motor and put it in.
    buy a new head$$$

I would hate to part it out..
the body is in fair shape and its a clean title CA car...

Definitely do not part it out.

I have sold M20's for 200 bucks before.

I vote 'buy a used motor and put it in'
    My previous build (currently E30-less)

      Define "toast"

Get another head, and get it reconditioned (yes spend the money), put it on, and tell the new owner he can enjoy another 30yrs of happy motoring due to your engine work:)

Ecs sells cylinder head kits that come with new head, gaskets, and fluids for like $1400 if I remember right.

Or you could just find a Craigslist motor for a couple hundred bucks

i was thinking of selling this car, before i got the dreaded call.
If i planned on keeping the car.. i would put more money into it..
          Diminishing returns...
how much could i get for a decent runner??? if i am lucky $3000 bucks??
Or have the values gone up since the last time i looked?

It sucks, but the car will be tough to sell with the head removed, and I doubt you'll get much for it, that's the only thing

Don't pull the engine. Just put another head on it. Rebuild it, have it skimmed, etc and put it on. Easy peasy.

Or as agent suggested, Bimmerheads. They'll get you set up proper!

                      Ive just went through this,

Did my 1st head gasket and my car was still a milk shake machine. Took it in and they quoted me 3k for a new head.
Did it myself, found a head on CL for $200, seals for $20 and machine work for $150. Couple new gaskets and head bolts, came out fixing it under $500.

Why were you tearing into in the 1st place?

Get a proper rebuilt head for it. Yes it will cost a bit, but most buyers would rather pay a bit more for a quality job, than a quick 1/2 assed job that looks like someone just wants to get rid of the car quickly and pass on the issues to the buyer. Nobody wants P.O. problems. Mark the price of the car up a bit to help offset the cost, it will attract more buyers.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

A refreshed head will probably cost the same as a motor swap only will be less work and you will have a "known good engine with a fresh head" vs a "running junk yard engine".

I'd sooner buy the first and would pay more for it.

                            head

I may have a line on a head.
See how it goes, find out later.
Slammin e28, i took it to a machine shop to get skimmed he told me my head was shot.

But HOW was it shot? Each to their own, but id want more information before looking for more parts.

Why is the head off in the first place? did you overheat it and blow the gasket?

The only proper catastrophic damage is if the head is proper bent from overheating, everything else can be fixed......for a cost of course.

Really bad corrosion is also another potential show stopper but I've had nasty corrosion welded up before.
