Okay:
I'm swapping out my 260 for a 240, both were bolted to M20's, a 320i and 325iS respectively. Before you ask why, the ratios in the 240 are much better suited to the the real world driving I do, and are almost identical to the ratios in a 260/5.
The driveshaft lengths are different, with the 240 appearing to utilise a longer propshaft. My question being, is the selector shaft in the same place on both boxes?
RealOEM and BMWFans.info both list differing part numbers for the straight selector arm that hangs off the selector shaft, the 835 being only for the 320i and 324d (both use the 240 box) and the 838 (which supercedes to 657) for the 325i (260 box).
Is this BMW just using different part numbers because they can, or are they legitimately differing parts, lengthwise?
