When i pulled my first e34 pan, I failed miserably. I thought I pulled all the said bolts and couldn't get it out. I dropped the subframe and lifted the engine. Shit, thought the engine wasn't high enough that I kept lifting and was starting to lift the car off the stands! I spent like 2 days prying. It turned out that there was a couple bolts at the back that are "hidden" by the trans. I left that pan there because I figured I had damaged it after hearing some snaps. Most likely those bolts breaking. The next time I found an e34, I had that pan out no problem after remembering those two back bolts.

The easiest way is to get the subframe out of the way. Of course be careful and make sure the engine and trans doesn't come down on you.
