Advance and the like has Chinese axles for $90, but then again, NAPA has true rebuilt axles for $90 (just expect a $150 core). It costs you a nice penny in just boots (if you buy good ones) and expect a 2hr job to re-boot - we do them all the time in our shop. Then you have a few decent brands (new) that are $150-200 as mentioned.
We just put all new boots on a locals' ix, it was worth it to him since even good used axles are so expensive and there was no play in the CV's.
If you can't take apart both CV's and replace worn parts, they aren't "rebuilt" you are just putting new boots on and re-packing them.

I don't feel rebuilt is the correct word for them either. A true rebuilt shaft would have new CV's. However what I am doing is dismantling and closely inspecting the preexisting inner CV's to check for wear and defects, as well as cleaning them very thoroughly before reassembling them. I didn't want to mess with the outer CV's as it's much more difficult to find parts for at a decent price. So what I did there was just do the best cleaning job I could possibly do while it was still on the shaft, and also inspecting them with this neat fiber optic camera I borrowed.
The more I talk to you guys though, the more uninterested you guys seem in my services. So rather than messing around with this idea, I'll just stick with what I know. Just figured it would be worth asking about. Thanks for the help and info guys.
