I pretty much have what you want to run in my car & it has been a reliable daily drive for over 4 years now.
You can run the Getrag 240 (M10) box no problem with a late e30 320i tail shaft if you don't want to shorten the 318i shaft. Just make sure you either get an uprated 318i clutch and pressure plate, or a RHD Engineering flywheel that lets you bolt up an M20 (or S14) clutch can pressure plate as the stock 318i clutch won't stand up to the punishment.
Everyone will tell you the gearbox won't last, but if it's good to start with and you don't drive like a mad man it will be fine. As stated above, mine is more than 4 years behind the M30 and showing no ill effects.
