M3 Brake Handle Cover

I just got an e30 M3 Brake Handle cover (PN 34412230012), and while it fits, the neck is too long. Am I supposed to cut it down, or was this part made incorrectly?

fold the end inside itself to shorten it. this will also create a cleaner end. i've done this on just about every shift boot i've ever installed.
