I have an OCZ Vertex3 240GB in my gaming rig. I bought it two plus years ago and it's still running flawlessly. I have it in two partitions; about 25% for Windows and the rest for games I'm currently playing. I have another 2TB drive in there just for file storage.

I just put a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB in my laptop a couple of weeks ago... so far so good. There's a very noticeable speed increase in pretty much everything over the 7200RPM, as well as a significant reduction in noise and heat. I did end up downsizing from 500GB, though with all the cloud and network storage I have available it's not posing an issue.

SSD + Ubuntu on a Sony laptop from 2008, button-on to login prompt in about 5 seconds. Buying one and maxing out on RAM is about the best performance bang:buck you can get.

        Here's a PNY 480GB for $165 AR, or the Samsung EVO 250GB for $110.

Ninja edit: the Samsung is selling FAST so jump on it if you want one.

yeah, I'm running the EVO 840 120gb that I got for 90 last month. Seems decent and boot time is quick

The samsung is rated second best SSD only to Intel (crazy pricey!)
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!
