I know this is satire but I still think it's stupid and not clever or funny for a number of reasons.

First off, masturbation is nothing like abortion. Like not even in the same ball park. Semen cannot become a living thing, whereas regardless of your stance on abortion, embryos do become a living thing at some point. Abortion SHOULD be a big decision but hey I am a man and I am not allowed to have an opinion.

Second, it irks me that this issue is framed by the left as "men controlling women's bodies" when women themselves are overwhelmingly pro-life. I live in a liberal state and town and every single girlfriend that I have ever had has been pro-life. Whereas men mostly stay out of the abortion debate. If men are presenting the bills in the legislature that is merely because they are the elected official for their locality and they are simply listening to their constituents like they should be. I am sure there are plenty of women in the legislature that support these bills but you don't hear about them because it doesn't fit the narrative.

Third, the position of the right is mainly that they should not be forced to pay for abortions through tax dollars, especially when their tax dollars are also going toward birth control which you should have been taking in the first place. I mean if you are someone who is bitching because the government won't pay for your irresponsibility multiple times over, then you're probably a scum bag and quite frankly I don't give a shit about your opinion. Liberals think that abortions are just another form of birth control and someone else should pay for it. What ridiculousness.

And lastly, what a giant waste of time and money this fake bill is.

I'd take it to People's Court and argue my way out of it. I have gotten out of every single speeding ticket I have gotten and even some parking tickets.

I guess I'm going to go ahead and disagree with a couple points here. The first is that all women who seek abortions are doing so out of recklessness and irresponsibility. You're painting all women with a very broad brush and I don't think that the label actually fits. Are there women out there that have made poor choices and could (and should) be categorized with your labeling, absolutely, but there are many more who simply should not.

Second point is that regardless of whether you think someone is a scumbag or not, they still have the right to an opinion. If they're an American citizen they have just as much of a right to speak their mind as you do. The woman who proposed the bill wanted her voice (and I'm assuming the voice of other women) to be heard, so she spoke up in a way that she knew would get headlines and create a national discussion. I'd say that's smart marketing, like it or not.

And lastly, liberals do not think that abortion is another form of birth control. I haven't met a girl yet that takes the abortion issue lightly. Not that I've interviewed every woman on earth, but I've never come across a woman who has ever said, don't wear a condom, I'll just get an abortion. It's never happened and likely will never happen. Liberals, conservatives, moderates, women of all walks take abortion very seriously.

I think the point here is that the large majority of women who ever step into a doctor's office with the intent to get an abortion have already spent countless hours debating the decision with themselves, their families, and their friends. Some of the measures required by law like the 24 hour waiting period and the trans-vaginal ultrasound are emotionally excruciating to a person that has already suffered tremendous guilt and pain over a decision they hoped they'd never have to make.

If it was just a matter of using birth control properly as to avoid the situation I think they would have done that in most cases (there are always exceptions so I'm not going to say all cases). The reality is that abortion is the unfortunate last option, not the first.

"What's not funny are the obstacles that Texas women face every day, that were placed there by legislatures making it very difficult for them to access healthcare."
                          This is interesting.

When we found out our first child was coming we were at a low point in our lives. Living at my parents, very low income, and a shit insurance policy that we thought had maternity coverage. Found out it didn't the hard way, and our insurance refused to add it because it was a "preexisting condition".

She managed to get coverage through the state and we didn't end up thousands in debt.

Sure, we had to jump through hoops but she got the healthcare she needed.

                          Granted, this wasn't in Texas.

Anywho, I'll be back to read through the thread later.

FYI, the system that is supposed to replace the ACA doesn't pay for birth control, but it does cover viagra.
