Bump because I love '02s and want to see this one brought back to life! I once bought an '02 with years of unpaid tags. Went to AAA and told them it was an old restoration project and they waived the fees! Also note that the automatics have a wider transmission tunnel and thus are better for swaps!

If a car hasn't been registered for more then 5 years, my understanding is the DMV removes it from there system and no fee's will remain when you go to re-register it.

dang, I hate rust, but i suppose it comes with the 2002s
How do the floorpans look if its been sitting for so long? Looks to have been repainted or touched up over rust?

Thanks Scruggs & Kirieiw; I'm going to let him know and look further into that. Would make things a lot easier at this point I believe.

Nomad, It's been resprayed, I can't tell you much else since I didn't do the work.

As far as rust is concerned the underbody looks good, the bubbling is semi normal once you put into perspective that it's a 42 year old car.

Seems like a fun option. I'm looking at 2002s now, trans swap would be in order. I'll keep it on the radar if it lasts. i have a friend that knows bodywork but it would be ratrod status.

At 4 or so I'd check it out. I may be in touch just to see it if my current purchase falls through.

My '76 Mercedes went unregistered since 1998, went in 2 months ago, still had back fees. It varies but I was told by the DMV employee that they're not out of the system for at least 20 years.
