    Testing site redesign...

Im posting here because e30sport members seemed to be the ones who had the most trouble viewing my pages.

Ive redesigned using cascading styles so hopefully the text size is adequately fixed. I am also streamlining it for faster loading (although my image host is being a whore right now) and to work better with 800x600.

Can everyone check it out? Dont click on the Ellips install in the white, check the menu. There is a link to a page called lighting.htm. That is the new format.

    Thanks
    Ryan

Can you post a screenshot of what it's supposed to look like? It looks kinda funky here, but I dunno what it used to look like (the lighting article that is).

The text is still as messed up and overlapped as ever.

using 1024*768 and ie6 and xp i don't see any serious problems although the pics wont load on some. could be a problem with people using 800*600

          This page is overlapped? http://www.archercc.net/tech/lighting.htm

Not the one linked on the main page, that was just for if someone needed the text during the redesign.
This is how the new one looks to me:

A bit different here. I dunno why I did this but here ya go. Sorry 56kers.

              It's Redhat Linux 9 and Opera 7.11 on 1280x960.

              Why do you use z-levels?

I just used 2 layers to place the pics, I was being lazy. That is odd is the coding before where it get screwed up is identical to where its all spaced out. Where the layers are implemented is down where the text is normal again.

Bear in mind the Opera render's generic HTML differently, even some stuff supposedly coded acc. to W3C and whatnot still comes up different...

how about now? I moved the tags for the layers to the very end. Maybe it didnt like them.

Other than those 2 the page is 100% preformatted (tag) text with images inputed with the img tag. The styles are set with a simple style sheet defined in the header. So all the text should be the same.

Wierd, I dunno man. Your source looks pretty decent...although I've never been a huge fan of the < pre > tag. Opera does render things a little bit differently, but I've never run into a site that looks much different (if at all) from the way it does in IE. But I've only been running Linux for a couple weeks now.

Okay, I just tried it in my other browser, Mozilla, and it appears much more normal. A bit sloppy and there's a little overlap, but it looks nothing like it did in Opera. Why not use a table or use CSS to divide it up into sections and use a float attribute for the pictures?

I may try the float formatting. Im still new to html coding. Hell, this is my first attempt at CSS. i was really only doing it so I could more easily Fix the text size.

Might take this as an elective.

Good idea. I've tried by just viewing other people's sources but decided to take a class this semester. I'm learning a lot more than I ever did in the past.

                              Plus it's an easy A.
