I installed new Eibach sport springs and Bilstein struts on my e30 strut towers with new upper spring retainer plates. On the drivers side it went in no problem and with the tower on the nut of the lower control arm and the top three nuts hand tightened it swung freely.
All I can think of is that I over tightened the strut top nut (did it by hand, no impact wrench). Or the ball joints have not seated correctly. With the strut off the car the spring retainer plate rotated freely, it only starts binding once I install it. Any help would be much appreciated.

On the passenger side at this stage I feel binding when turning it to the left in the upper spring area and can see the rubber of the upper retainer flexing. When I put the nut on the lower control arm and started to tighten the strut would not turn at all.
