I would like to install an early model steering column in my '91 M-Tech cabrio.
I absolutely fucking hate the design of the 1990+ steering column, with that intermediate shaft that always moves, making it impossible to get more than 1/3-1/2" of shaft spline contact from the steering knuckle. It's easily the stupidest design ever and makes steering rack r/r easily my most hated job on a (late model) E30. My cabrio has a bad steering rack for about a year now and that is the biggest reason I haven't replaced it.
Has anyone here installed one with success on a late model car? I don't see why it wouldn't work. From what I remember, it removes very similarly to an early steering column, and I do believe the firewall is similar.
