    Free Chinese Headers....

They sent them to me as a product sample... Not what you were thinking was it...

    So...

A company in China sent me a sample of their headers, these are the same ones offered on eBay for dirt cheap (and for a little bit more from some of your favorite famous tuner shops), I posted about this a little while back and what everyone seemed to want was dyno specs...

    That, I'm working on.

But this here is what I've got for you so far:

    The Design:

They ripped off a good one, this I already knew.

    The fit:

Oddly they pop right on there, as is expected the studs will need a touch of shortening (on the rear bank) in order for the nuts to clear easily.

One gripe, the clamping fittings will need to be fixed (slots opened and extended back a bit) because they will not tighten up.

One note here...This is important info for any semi complex install: Get everything in there before you tighten every thing up.

    The Finish:

On the outside they look bitchin, the flanges are a little rough but on the inside...pretty damn rough, apparently the Chinese don't know it takes 2 bottles of gas to MIG headers (one for the inside of the pipes) Lots of "Marbles" and burning.

(If this was going on my car I'd "Mud Hone" the inside of the tubes...I would also shot peen the exterior shinny is nice but removing stress risers would help prevent cracking)

    Overall: (so far)

Can't beat the price (especially on this one... they gave it to me) but I still will not sell or recommend these. They are not the Best Shit Ever. Without some work they will not perform well, the leftovers from welding will cause localized super-heating leading to cracks or burn through and the general material quality is suspect.

I am working on one of my buddies that has an engine dyno to let me play with this old M20 so I can get some solid numbers soon.

Nah, those had real long primaries, and looked pretty good.

These are the same as Ireland was selling. Kinda a rip off of the Supersprint. not bad looking!

Are you going to put a full exhaust behind it when you test it?

Yes, I'll probably run it in several different configurations

This company manufactures 5 different designs of M20 headers 4 for e30 chassis + another 2 for turbocharging.

These look very familiar to the original 'Budget Beater' headers from some time ago.

My friend has a set on his Seta. They run HOT!!! We installed a heat blanket thats just tucked under the factory heat shield flaps and it covers the pipes over the bends and down a few inches. The idea was to keep the heat from the coolant reservoir.

The piping material itself is very thin and you can hear the exhaust pulse's hitting the inside of the pipes creating a 'pinging' sound. They started to 'blue' and looked decent but the color slowly turned dark and funky looking. Almost a cork board color.

But whatever they work and don't leak and haven't cracked yet. They have been in daily service for about a year now.

Power gains from the headers appears negligible as there was no 'seat of the pants' difference. Other then the headers the exhaust and engine is stock.
