Hey Listen:

I would really hold out for an '88 + e30...89+ better yet.

The late e30 chassis was just better all around for safty and corrosion protection just two of the advatages amoung many more...

poo on that last comment.

Go see it. Plus m10 engine are just so darn cute.
'84 318i was the very first e30 I ever drove, and I was hooked.

Dude, I'm not trying to rag you, but please use punctuation at least. Everything is fixable. Depends on how much time, money, and tools you have though.

Thats up to you. I would refresh everything in the engine. New hoses, all new gaskets, waterpump, timing belt, etc. I'm sure you can find better ones for the price, but its worth a try. Keep looking, it's your first car so don't rush into it..

I found mine for $1200. But, you get what you pay for.
This one looks to have had a significant amount of those little things that break replaced already. That is a good start.
It won't have a lot of power, but unless you intend to drag race or track it, you will have enough.

Give it a hard look. But if you haven't looked at and driven any others yet, the do that first. You might have to look for a bit, they are getting hard to find around here.

It will probably need suspension work too. If the frame is straight, no rust, and few dings/dents, it could be a good buy. I think somewhere from 1000-1200 would be a decent price if all of the above is good.
