I can has a/d/s/ and C43 radio swap?

Over the last couple of days I've been installing a nearly complete a/d/s/ system I got off a board member. I finally retrofitted my C43 radio, also.

    The system is made of:

    a/d/s/ 300is rear component speakers
    a/d/s/ S6.2i subwoofers
    a/d/s/ 642CSi crossover
    a/d/s/ PH12 amplifier

I was originally looking for a/d/s/ stuff after reading so many positive comments online, so when this popped up I had to jump on it (thanks again, Dave!)

This was my first attempt at a car audio install, and it took a little longer than expected...but there was a lot of customizing to be done. All in all I am extremely impressed with how great it sounds. For 16 year old components I am absolutely blown away.

Here are some crappy pictures, I'll take some better ones eventually, but I was just too excited and had to snap a couple.

Let me know what you think!

I had one with a flash but I deleted it off the camera right after I took it. I thought it was bright enough with the sun setting behind me, but I guess not.

All old school a/d/s/ goodness. I'm in love.

Ahh I love my a/d/s 345cs components up front. They fill an e30 amazingly well.

Yeah, hopefully I can source a nice set of fronts to round out my system.

Interesting, any more details, your stereo-folk lingo has me lost, but very intrigued.

            What is A/D/S?

Love the way it looks in the dash, btw.

a/d/s/ = Analog and Digital Systems. One of the best audio manufacturers... until they were bought out by DEI.

              I'm rocking a PQ10 bi-amped to my front stage :)

Thank you very much. a/d/s/ is the company, as ken pointed out. There are not many other details, but to get the C43 to fit flush you need to dremel the lip out of the inside of the HVAC panel. I got the aftermarket harness for the radio from installer.com. I did not get an antenna adapter because I hardly listen to the radio and the previous owner cut the antenna cable in the trunk anyway.

I did have to cut some metal in the center of the rear shelf to get the subs to fit, but now it almost looks factory. I'm quite pleased with the way it all turned out.

I'm going to be doing an AUX-IN at some point, I don't know if I'm going to modify my radio as TDE30 posted recently, or get some sort of adapter that uses the CD changer cables. I would have done the AUX-IN as part of this install, but my ipod is fucked so I've been using a tape adapter and my MP3/CD player.

Nice, got any pictures of yours?

C43 flush install looks nice - did the same in my car.

Absolutely awesome man. I have been debating about throwing in a C33 or C43 head unit in my car. It looks very OE and very period correct.

So, did it take a lot of modifying to get it to work in the E30? And you said that it does fit flush with a bit of modifying, right?

Keep me posted, if you don't mind, about that Aux-In thing.

Thanks Aaron, I had seen your post a while back, definitely confirmed my thoughts that I wanted to do a swap rather than go aftermarket.

Trey, not much modifying at all, just have to cut the lip off the HVAC panel. I was going to take pictures, but it's pretty self explanitory. I got a spare panel off my best friend (Chachi on the boards) out of his parts car. I will definitely keep you updated with the AUX-IN whenever I get it done and whenever I get a new HD for my iPod.

Is this the stuff that James had? If it is, I'm surprised he sold it. I thought it was going in his car.

                        Looks great.

Actually, this isn't James' stuff. I PM'd him about a few questions I had on the install. The crossover requires either a jumper plug or a remote bass control unit. He has the remote bass control unit and I was able to dig up an old thread on Pelican's website about soldering my own jumper plug.

Find yourself a nice set of 320is's for the front and you'll be set. Nice install!

my stupid questions shall continue, these c33/43 models came out of e36? or something else? What speakers and why? You had to get wiring from somewhere else? How come? What's that in the trunk if not an AMP? If it is an AMP, why didn't run AUX cables already? by AUX cable you mean RCA's right?

Can you do a write up, because I will be bugging you with noobie questions. Installing Alpine was a breeze afte I rewired the whole car, but this is by far more interesting to me.
