paging Luke or anyone...Alarm wiring for dome light on when disarmed

Help on this one. I have a wire for an alarm that is neg for dome light activation when disarmed. I want to get this hooked up. Currently I have a lead going to the neg door pin on the driver's side door I believe its purple/brown that triggers the alarm when the door is open.

According to the alarm manual the lead for the door pin and the dome light can be used together but not sure. Do I need a relay set up for the dome light? If so, how?

    thanks for the help....

So, that wire puts out a 500mA ground.

Your door pins run a relay already. IF you catch the actual door pin trigger wire, you SHOULD be able to trigger the factory relay...but I always just grab a relay and make my own.

    Luke

        it worked-kinda

the output for the power was really dim. I think I need to hook up a relay, the signal that comes out is just that-a signal. Any tips on hooking up a relay. I have a few left from taking out the old alarm that was in the car.

          Pin 85: +12V
Pin 86: - from alarm (domelight control wire, generally black/white)
Pin 30: - (just your basic ground)
Pin 87: output of relay to door pin circuit
          Pin 87a: not used

Naw - don't bother with that silly on/off light. Get this instead.

so does this mean if you hit unlock on your alarm, your interior lights would light up?

Stephen, my E39 does that when I press the "lock" button a second time, though it also supposedly disables the motion sensor.

That's the idea, so you can see the interior before opening the door.

but with most alarms or keyless entry system, the door trigger wire and dome light supervision wire is tapped to the single door pin wire (purple/white). As a result, won't the 2 connections conflict?

Say for example, my alarm has a built in dome light delay that kills the light 30 seconds after the door is closed (or when the ignition is on). If I were to hook the door trigger wire on the same wire, it feels like my delay function will be compromised once the the door pin is triggered (ie door open and door close)

Why did you bump a thread from 2008?

should I have created a new thread only for someone else to tell me to "SEARCH" instead of giving me a direct answer?

Not so much. as long as they are both switching the doom light to ground, as does a normal door jam switch. Then it shouldnt matter which switch turns it on.
