I swapped cars with her on Sunday in Berkeley since she needed my 4Runner to move all of her stuff out of the dorms back home. Since it was in the driveway I took her car to work yesterday. I was coming out of the Pine Canyon gate here on Vandenberg AFB at lunch time, gave it some gas, (pavement was partially wet) and the back end went totally around on me in the blink of an eye, the car slid off to the right side of the road through some small trees and down a 15 foot embankment. I hit a pretty good size tree on the way down the embankment. I'm lucky I didn't roll the car on the way down the embankment. The front end is all messed up, radiator support, hood, grille, passenger side fender is toast. It's now a parts car. The base cops told me that the Eucalyptus trees puts out a sap and the rain mixed with the sap makes it really slick (CA version of black ice). No kidding; I found that out because I wrecked immediately after I passed several big eucalyptus trees. Needless to say, I'm pretty sore from the seat belt. It sucks to be me but its time to make lemonade out of lemons. This car will be parted out, it's royal blue metallic (very rare color) with a tan interior. 5 speed. I looked for a long time to find this car It seems that most plastic bumper sedan's are automatics, stick shift sedans are rare. I'll keep the recarro's and IE stainless steel exhaust system and other parts depending on what 89-91 E30 I find to replace this one with.
For those who remember, I had this car at bimmerfest in May.
Here are some pics of the car and our road trip story to Fresno to buy it.
