    Feeler: '87 plastic-bumpered vert (NJ)

    SOLD

I bought a hard top for my '89 'vert, but I had to buy an entire car to get it. The car is an '87 325iC 5-speed with 195k miles. It needs a little work to make it reliably road-worthy, but it made the 50+ mile trip from NY to NJ without any trouble. That said, it's probably worth more as a parts car. Since I have three other cars, and only a 1-car unheated garage and single-lane driveway, I'd prefer not to do the parting myself.

    The good:
    Plastic bumpers
    5-speed
    Decent top
    Unsplit rear seat back
    Crack-free dash
    Ellipsoids
    Trunklid spoiler
    BBS-replica wheels
    Recent front end rebuild

    The bad:
Due for a timing belt & all accessory belts
    Bad exhaust
    Sloppy shifter
    poorly-installed aftermarket head unit
    inoperative handbrake

    Here's a link to pics:

    You sure its a 87?

Or did some psycho actually put big taillights and plastic bumpers on it?

VIN shows it to be an 87.

        Those aren't 87 tails...double check, that could be a late 91, 92 or 93...

The last 7 of the VIN are 1927173, which decodes as a 3/87 build.

Which VIN are you using? Check for another VIN in the engine bay or trunk, there's a higher probability that someone swapped the dash, normally I would say it's an 88 model year but the 88 and 89's still had the early tails.

Truth....use the VIN on the door jamb or whats on the title of the car.

Who knows, maybe its registered as an 87, for some reason and someone just swapped over the title and dash vin...

Check the vin stamped in the cowl.

Definately an '87. It looks to be a frankencar. Early style resevoir in the engine bay. And it appears to have some sheet metal rear valance covering the real rear valance.

Door jamb and title both have the 1927173 VIN.

Look at the rear arches. 87 should have the high rear arches. That should solve the question of whether its a 87 or 91.

All verts have low arches. But there is something weird going on here. That also appears to be an 88 and later 3rd brake light. Is the rear valence metal?

It's an 87 with a shitty swap job done. Bumpers don't sit even close and the rear valance is not OE. I'm betting it was rear ended and the PO had a late model sitting around so he threw the plastics, valance, trunklid, and late tails. I've seen cars cut off at the rear window line and merged with a new rear come out so good you wouldn't know the difference.
