    Weight loss discussion:

I've seen the "weight reduction" thread:

I'm more looking for what people have done above and beyond this for "all out" race cars that min. weight is the #1 goal.
Also, alternative parts/materials you guys have used?

I've got a new min. weight for my car in NASA TTC class of 2465lbs and I'm 225lbs.. so, ya!

This past weekend I was straightening my front valence and installing a lip and decided to remove the impact material from behind the front bumper and ended up weighing it. I also found a 3rd horn under the ABS module and removed the other high beam since they're not hooked up and the other one was removed for an intake setup.
So, bumper impact material, a horn, and 1 high beam ended up being 18lbs! :O

Next I'll be trimming some metal here or there, mainly the metal skeleton behind the hood/trunk lid.

    What else guise??

perhaps obvious... but for an all out race application, are you running a fuel cell? It's also easy to shed weight with a smaller battery etc. It's all pretty general stuff applicable to most any vehicle, try searching any weight reduction threads on other performance forums for new ideas. Are you able to corner balance w/ scales in your garage?

Haven't thought of the fuel cell yet.. Seems like a good way to get rearward weight.
I still have pwr windows and all that biz to ditch.
Still on H&R race springs so not corner balancing until I get some GC's.
The driver wants to lose another 30lns so that will help! :p

What have you done so far? What is your current weight? Want to go on a diet?

go crazy and chop off some metal. how about that? You got the inner doors, misc brackets, trunk separator, spare tire well, inner trunk support, etc.

There are tons of things not on that list that you can get rid of if you so choose -- but you also add stuff back when you prep for a race obviously -- gauges, senders, extra fluids, coolers, etc...

I have a fairly stripped out 318, just wonder what it will weigh before it gets a cage... HMMMmmmm

Just got back from a jog.. :D

Here's my list of what I've thought of doing:
            Smaller battery
            Cut out rear shelf
Hack out the spare wheel well
Lexan 3/4 windows instead of pop-outs
            Remove door windows/gut doors
            Hack out hood/trunk skeleton
            CF side mirrors
            Rear bumper impact materiel
            Ditch ABS (maybe)
            Trim MISC. interior metal

            +lbs. - Replace 4point bolt-in w. a real cage

            I'm @ 2375# w. 3/4 tank of gas
            Shooting for 2250#

            Damn, I didn't realize the gas tank was 16.4gal.. that's 100lbs in fuel! :O
..and my car is usually full since I let my friend use it for HPDE.

before you chop out the tire well check this out.

If your just doing TT you dont need as much fuel anyways right? And it gets the weight further down than a standard fuel cell and further aft than the stock tank.

The rear shelf is structural, so you may want to rethink that too.

before you go on a radical weight reduction, are you going to be in TT forever with this car or planning to move onto w2w? if you are, you might want to take a look at the rules for that potential class to make sure you don't do anything irreversible.

That fuel cell might be perfect.. Time for some measuring!
I won't gut the rear shelf until the cage is in there.. and with all the contact points/stitching I'm sure it will be fine.
Not planning on making this a racecar.. I've gone that route w. a Spec Miata I had and honestly this car will be my ongoing track car that will hopefully just get faster and faster.
After the 24v goes it's getting an LSx swap.

In my head its either fully gut or leave everything intact. My friend gutted his only car and hes regreating it pretty bad.

I really want to see how your line will compare to my line. I think our are cars are pretty close as far as suspension goes, I might have a touch more, but you have a whole lot more power than me. I'm planning on fitting this car in TTD an GTS1. I need to get a few more things in order with my car but i will be seeing you at Firebird in the near future I have a feeling.

Our race car, we have a CF skin, hood and trunk, fg skin bumpers and front valance, doors are skinned only have hinges, dash is gutted and most of the foam removed, lexan all around, tubular control arms (more for adjustment but they are MUCH lighter than the stock arms, same goes for the tie rod, fuel cell... etc etc.

Next to come are making the steel widebody fenders out of fiberglass and cutting/swapping them out, should save some weight.
