    avery0829's project thread.

My E30 is an 88' 325iS with a stock solid running M20B25 with 220,000. I'm swapping in a 97 328i M52B28 OBD1 with an F1 racing 14lb flywheel, AA header with a 2.5 inch down pipe to a high flow cat to a Remus cat back. Bimmerworld intake and 540i MAF. Stock 21.5 pink top injectors. For the drive train a ZF trans, Sachs OEM clutch and pressure plate and a e28 3.25 rear end.

I am not one to type a whole lot and give extreme details but I'll give it a try. I

Here it is when I first bought it a little under 2 years ago.

Since then I have got plastic bumpers, GC coil overs, DZ exclusivs, new stereo system, lip, M tech 2 steering wheel and a few other misc things.

And here is basically how it looks now.

I almost feel bad pulling a perfect running M20 out. But it will be for sell for someone to use and let it live on.

    Some of the maintenance parts

While I was replacing the valve cover gasket, I decided to snap a quick picture. Looks really clean in there!

Once all of the replacment parts were done being put on, it was time to paint the block. I was debating about doing it gold haha but I had black high temp paint already from repainting a few things on my R6.

After labeling the wiring harness I saw these two wires...Anyone know where they go?

I took the two knock sensors off like a dummie and forgot which one goes to each connector. From what I have read one goes to pin 69 and 70? How would I find out which is which?

Here just another random picture, I pulled in the garage one night and noticed someone had shined up the AA headers for me. Thanks to my pops.

Got new smaller hardware to get rid of the extra AC pulley. Power steering pump cleaned up and put on along with the belt.
Question: Do I need the other pulley on top of the alternator? Also how should the front crank sensor wire be routed? Or is mine right?

Another parts stash. ZF trans, cat, E28 3.25 lsd rear end, reinforced sub frame (which was cracked when I got it ) E21 brake booster already modified.

Some other randoms and Remus cat back!

F1 racing light wieght flywheel and TRM chip are in the mail now. Other then those two things I forgot to order a rear main seal also:neutral: Oh well.

Question. Are the coil packs and grounds on correctly, I keep seeing little brass (?) plates connecting a couple of them together. If someone could help clear this up that would be great.

Question. Which side goes to the head and the manifold? I think the shiney side goes toward the head. Correct me if I'm wrong. They are OBD1 exhaust gaskets. From what I heard seal better.

shiny side to head, don't know about the two wires, not sure about the knock sensors (i don't think it'll matter.) get the other pulley above the ALT, everything else is fine.

The sensors themselves are interchangable. Matching the connector with the correct sensor location (cylinders 1-3 and 4-6) is what is important.

The knock sensor for cylinders 4-6 goes to pin 70, knock sensor for cylinders 1-3 is pin 69. Checking for continuity between these two pins at the DME connector and each plug will tell you which one is which.

You have it routed correctly. Part #11 from the link below secures the wire above the thermostat housing. I pulled one from a junkyard M50 for my OBD1 S52.

                        Thanks!

                        Little update.
Got the F1 Racing flywheel, looks pretty nice.
                        (Picture soon)

Decided I needed to spend the money and get a new rear main seal.
                        Here's right before I started.

                        After picture later.

After quite a hassle getting it in, finally it went in to place. Huge stepping stone for the project. I'll elaborate more about everything and what I did at a later date. At the moment I'll let the pictures do the talking.

I've never had headers before on any of my cars (Did I on my R6) and just love looking up at this angle :)
