Is there anything you would be looking for in trade? I really want this.

Not really. I could use some suspension stuff, aftermarket springs/ struts. etc. I can work with someone on the price if they are just looking for main components of the engine. Maybe around $750 for just head/ block with rotating assembly NOTHING ELSE.

        EDIT: huge price typo

I picked up another shell to use my old swap stuff in. My 318is is getting something different.

Can you actually put S52 cams in a NV head?

Yes, all of the head castings are the same with the exception of some of the early heads didn't have certain water passages. Since the NV heads had thicker valve stems, later vanos valve guides will have to be installed in the NV head so you can use the lighter, skinnier S5x/M5xtu valves. You would obviously want to install the S52 valve springs from the cracked head as well.

A much cheaper/ lazier way of doing it would be to just bolt the S52 cams/ trays into the NV head and slap a vanos unit on the front and call it a day. I was not going to do this.

What about the hump where the vanos unit is?

The hump is the vanos unit itself.

I looked up some pictures and now I understand - basicall the cover over the front of vanos unit can be swapped between nv and vanos heads, right?

I might be interested in the s52 cams if you want to part them.

Yep the head can be swapped throughout the M5x family of engines, with the valve guides being the only part that differs for the most part. The OBD1 heads have the extra threaded coolant sensor hole too.

I'm not parting anything at this time.
