    World Products Aluminum M30 Blocks

Notice: Will all you haters please stop PMing me? The original group buy thread got totally screwed up and has been deleted by the mods, but ALL IS WELL, and this will be the main thread from now on. So chill out.

[UPDATE: First “alpha” production run of 50 blocks sold out in 4 days, with all units paid and shipped as of March 10. I got serial #0001 (hehe) and my build went smooth except for my own dumbass mistakes, fixed by generous R3V members – you know who you are. Having built-M30 torque with 80 less pounds on the nose of the car is a sweet ride – crude and yet elegant. Initial build reports coming back from our R3V’ers and the Emotech, mye28.com and bmwe34.net guys are all sounding very, very good. The e9coupe.com guys are in a rainbow colored happy cloud right now.

World Products was caught off-guard by the strong demand, there are no blocks in stock at this time. I’m now taking reservations for the second “beta” run of 50. Production on Lot 2 will be completed in mid-April, with orders taken and payment accepted only after units are in stock. Blocks will drop-ship from the World Castings US distribution center in Colorado Springs.]
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GROUP BUY – ALUMINUM M30 BLOCK FROM WORLD CASTINGS.

Screen grab from upcoming retail pricing version:

Group Buy price for 1 aluminum M30 block with 92.5mm bores is $1,495 plus $250 truck shipping to the lower 48, a $700 savings over the list price. The sleeve-integral o-ring option is not being offered for this production run.

This against-all-odds beauty is the result of two years of intense lobbying by myself, straight6pwr(R3V), and the guys at the Mye28.com, bmwe34.net, and e9coupe.com forums. The 50-unit test runs are being produced in the World Products skunk works in Colorado Springs. This is World’s first non-US application and they are very excited about opening up the Euro tuning market. It’s basically the same technology as World’s alloy blocks to replace the cast-iron units for resto-mod and racing Chevys, Fords, and Chryslers.

(Side note: Whether World continues on to develop alloy blocks for the M10 and M20 is going to be heavily based on the sales volume of these M30’s. As far as the S14, World Products owner Bill Mitchell told me that they are a “2 valve engine” parts house, and have no interest in making pieces for “pussified twin cam engines” when they are making 800HP from 2-valves-per-pot, pushrod, naturally aspirated 1960’s motors on pump gas. It was hard selling them on the M30 due to the glaring lack of pushrods, but the single cam, rocker arms, and otherwise utter lack of modern technology finally swayed them.)

[Update: Some or all of the lot 1 blocks were painted black, until World was politely informed that the BMW crowd wanted the raw aluminum exposed for the “bling” factor. There’s no way to tell whether you will receive a bare or painted unit. And BTW stop whining about it. Lot 2 blocks will be raw aluminum.]

Shipping will be via truck freight, with a $60 surcharge for residential (non-commercial) delivery.

International shipping is not being offered at this time, as World is using this first 50-unit production run to gauge demand, and wants to sell all initial lot 1 units domestically.

[Update: If interested please fill in your name in the list below and I will add you to the reservation list. Do NOT send any money, World is not taking any more orders until the Lot 2 units are in stock (target date mid-April).]

Can I advertise this on local forums? We've got everything from swapped E30M30's to turbo'd E34's, they'd be all over this!

Tell them to get over their aversion to 4-valve engines and make an aluminum S14 block. Tell them it's basically a hyper M10 if that'll assuage their hurt feelings. I would flat out buy one.

Yes, but those are extremely hi-tech aluminum alloys with all kinds of very advanced shit in them, no way an aftermarket company could re-create them at a price anyone would stomach.

Its too bad that it would never happen too.

DEFINITELY!!! That would be a HUGE market for them!!!

I also think they'd make great money doing M50-series aluminum blocks. I know they were available in the Z3 2.8's, but they are far and few between.
