BICYCLES in Boulder, Colorodo/speed limit for cyclists entering CROSSWALKS? update!

In an effort to reduce the number of accidents that happen in Boulder crosswalks, police and transportation officials are developing a suite of new laws targeting how cyclists, pedestrians and drivers all interact.
The proposals include setting a new speed limit within crosswalks for cyclists, requiring pedestrians to activate flashing lights before crossing the street and enhancing enforcement of vehicle-yield laws.
One of the three proposed changes -- which already have earned the blessing of the city's Transportation Advisory Board -- would set the speed limit for cyclists entering or traversing a crosswalk at 8 mph.
Now, the city's code requires cyclists to approach and enter the crosswalk "at a speed no greater than an ordinary walk, so that other drivers may anticipate the necessity to yield when required."
The code does not speak to how fast the cyclist may go once inside the crosswalk.
Boulder police Cmdr. Kurt Weiler said that's an accident waiting to happen. TYPICALLY, BICYCLE RIDERS IN THIS FINE CITY THINK THERE "ROAD GODS", I SEE PROTESTS, I KNOCKED OVER 24 BICYCLISTS SOME YEARS AGO, I DID NOT RECIEVE A TICKET BECAUSE I WAS NOT AT FAULT, THEY WERE FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY AND ALL RECIEVED TICKETS!! A PINK HAIRED TROLL JUMPED IN THE ROAD AND MY BMW STOPPED TO QUICKLY FOR THE BIKE BOYS TO STOP!!

Fucking fixed gear hipsters here are obnoxious as hell. I understand they may have the right of way going through an intersection when I'm trying to turn right, but when they come up behind me at more than the posted speed limit and then yell at me for being the dick for not seeing them I am not the problem...they are. Goodluck arguing right of way when you do a faceplant over my hood and your wayfarer's are embedded in your face.

Proud, you bet, they were givin 3-4 warning taps on the brakes, i was doing the speed limit, they could not pass due to on coming traffic and i wasn't about to pull over so they could get thier way and nowhere to pull over. The only 3 that had to leave in an ambulance were the ones right behind me at 2 bike lengths,30 mph. All eight cops told them they were tired of thier shit and taking over roads in the area.

Spenser Havlick, chairman of the Boulder Transportation Advisory Committee, said the committee supported the proposed changes to better accommodate pedestrians and cyclists alike.

"The pedestrian is king and queen in Boulder, and then comes the cyclist," he said. "We're trying to give priority to folks who are walking, biking, handicapped and people who are riding the bus."

Boulder transportation officials said the department is working on a comprehensive study of crosswalk accidents. That information will be given to the City Council on Sept. 6, before the elected leaders vote on the proposed changes sometime in November.

SPENCER IS A BIKE RIDER, HE HATES PEDESTRAINS CARS ARE 5TH I GUESS BEHIND THESE folks who are (1)walking, (2)biking, (3)handicapped and (4)people who are riding the bus."

It's people with your mentality that caused me to quit cycling altogether.

                          Sad.

I ride my bike every day but without the " bike god mentally" i stop & yield. I don't ride on streets where cars are put in danger avoiding me, ride on the sidewalk and weave through pedestrains, don't follow any common traffic rules just cause there on a bike, this is THE biker that needs his bike taken away.
