Time to introduce myself, my name is Bas, 20 years old and I live in Holland. I drive a E30 316 M10 which I own for 1,5 year now.
This is how it was for sale on a local website (kinda like craigslist):
Optionless 316, probably the cheapest e30 you could buy 27 years ago, but I loved it!
There were some things to improve, so I bought a set of 325i swaybars, 20mm in front and 14,5 mm back. (was 18mm front an none in the back:p) And a front strutbar. That made it handle much better!
And I did some rust-prevention for the upcoming winter:
Then the carburettor had some issues so off with the electronic controlled Pierburg crap and on with the oldschool Weber downdraft!
When working on my carburettor I decided to paint my valve cover and I found a lot of dirtyness when I took that off:
And my camshaft:o
So it's time for a new engine, luckely 316 engines don't cost anything :
And I also found something which I had to buy, but be honest would you let a $1000 m-tech1 318i with 17" alpina replica's go?
It looks good at pictures but it was very rusty! After driving it home for 220 miles the engine died after just a few miles, I'm lucky I made it to my house. Time to take it apart and make my 316 look good!
318i dies:
316 never looked better:
And someone with an e28 was visiting the neigbors so our driveway looked good:
Then I found some sportseats with a matching backseat:
Sits and looks much better now!
So it sits great, drives great and looks ok. Time to take my engine apart!
Engine in the engine stand:
Looks much cleaner:
And I sandblasted/painted everything that would come off the engine:
And I found some parts to make it a little faster:
- Twin Dellorto's Dhla 40
- 318i cilinder head (bigger ports/valves then a 316)
- Supersprint exhaust manifold
- everything I needed to make it run (electric fuelpump, 2002 intakes etc.)
I planned to install this when my new engine was ready but I could not wait any longer:
I made a quick video of the sound:
It runs, but not great. The carbs need some adjustment and my engine is still dying.
Some things will improve but I'm gonna do that when my new engine goes in. It will have a 318i head on a 316 block (which has higher compression then a 318i block), I also want to install my exhaust manifold and if I win the lottery a schrick 292 camshaft.
And when that's ready I still have a little rust to fix and a m-tech set to paint, so I'm not gonna be bored for a while
And at last, some pictures taken at a local e30 meet:
