BBQ and Parkway run!! May 12th

WNC BBQ!! May 12th, 2012 in Asheville NC!
Due to the great success of the Fall '11 get together I am organizing a Spring BBQ and Parkway run to Mt. Mitchell (the highest mountain east of the Mississippi). All older BMW's whose series started production prior to 1990 are invited to attend. We are allowing E36's only because there are several really good people out there that drive them not because of the car itself!!
The picnic will be on Saturday May the 12th the location is the Recreation Center in Asheville. We have reserved the circular pavilion at the Recreation Center with A huge amount of parking available and electric hook ups and good bathroom facilities. This location has two covered picnic tables we can use for tech sessions just across the street from the pavilion. And we will be less than 2 miles away from the entrance to the Parkway. Also located within a <2 minute walk is the Nature Center for those of us bringing family that may not be so interested in the cars! I am working on finding a large grill/ trailer. There are two small park grills but if we have as many people as I think, the small grills will not be enough. Let me know if you have a large grill or know of where to get one for the day.

Good news three tech sessions are set!
    1) Kevin Chinn of Creative Options will be doing a tech session on interior repair.
    2) Chuck D. a member here and on s14.net and an owner of a pristine e30 M3 will be sharing some info on iPod integration with the CD43 and other really good audio setup tips!
    3) Chris Joyner, a highly respected independent BMW mechanic and garage owner, will be sharing technical tips and maintenance musts using the cars at the show as discussion material. This will be cool because the tech session will move around the show!

I will update with driving directions for everyone coming from out of town sometime in the near future.

The tentative schedule looks like this:
    10:00-11:00 Show up and park
11am (ish) Coals will hit the grills
    Tech sessions will begin
    General showing off and drooling
    12:30ish Eat
Continue to show off and drool
2:00ish Leave BBQ area for Parkway run

We will hit the top of Mt. Mitchell around 3pm Bring a jacket because it stays cool up there well into the summer.

If you would like to eat I am collecting $6 per person through paypal or in person. If you don't want to eat you can still come and show off and hang out! I will collect "lunch money" until Friday, May 11th. I will also issue refunds until May 1st in case your plans drastically change or if they are calling for a Hurricane on Saturday!!

Please send your $6 per person to paypal account, mattkoppi@hotmail.com and send it as a gift. Make sure to include your real name with the payment. When you arrive at the BBQ we will give you a ticket per meal purchased which can be redeemed for a generous lunch including beverage and sides!!

We will be eating hamburgers and chicken. All condiments will be provided along with an assortment of beverages and sides. If you have a family recipe that you are dying to share by all means bring it, just let me know before hand so I can plan accordingly.

I look forward to seeing you all!

you could break away from the group at Mt. Pisgah and head to Boone from there. It is a great scenic route!

Sounds like fun. I may be able to attend, but neither of my E30s would be able to make the trip to Mt. Mitchell. If there are electrical hook-ups I can plug in the electric car.
