First swap s50. no start or fuel resolved added s50 x20 , c101 (late model) pinout

    Hello everybody!

    UPDATE:10/24/12

Here is what I used for my swap wiring. This is a chart I made for s5o x20 and c101 (late model) pinouts, wire colors and swap wiring information. It worked well for me!

I am in the middle of my first swap and I have some questions. Here is the details on what I have and whats going on.
I have a 1990 325i with an airbag. Originally it was an auto so maybe I didn't do some of the wiring correctly and that could be part of the problem.
For reference I followed this guide to do the manual swap wiring.

Its on post #3. The motor I am swapping in is a s50 and the zf tranny with the s50 harness and starter. The motor was running in another e30 before I pulled it. So i know all the components work. Only thing I did differently is, I decided to use a jumper harness I bought from a buddy of mine. I did a continuity test on the jumper harness and it all checks out. Also the motor wasnt in a I so it had the single fuel pump. I dont know how much of a difference that makes with the wiring but I figured I would put that out there.

    Issue #1

    Starter

When I try to crank it over the starter just free spins. It doesn't sound like it is engaging. I checked the battery it was fine slightly low but I jumped it to be sure. I also hooked the starter up the same way it was in the other car and should be correct, from what I have read on different threads on here. I heard of some people adding a second ground but I dont know how I feel about that, it should start up. I also checked and cleaned the grounds on the car. What else should i check?

    Issue #2

    No Fuel

The rail is not getting any fuel. I checked to make sure I had the fuel lines on correctly and checked both sides of the rail just in case. Both were dry. I also checked to make sure the injectors and plugs are getting power and they are. I pulled the fuse (# 11) for the pump and I am not getting power there. I can hear relays clicking. I did a continuity test on the jumper harness and it all checks out. The first pump is getting power and my gas gauge is working, but I don't think the secondary is getting power. I also tried adding a ground to the ecu as a test it didn't change anything. I checked and cleaned all of the grounds as well. Am I just over looking something simple here?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hmmmm

    Jumper wiring = harness adapter?

Just to be clear, power on internal but not external pump? You're getting fuel to the line supplying the second pump? Check the wiring on the second pump and ensure the arrow is correct

Re-check all your relays, use a few pieces of wires to manually jump them and see if you can get fuel

How many grounds/where are your grounds?

What DME? Same as when it was running? EWS?

You can see the starter contacting the flywheel or is it maybe not on properly somehow?

Good luck, doesn't sound too bad but don't give up -- it'll come

Thank you! I was just about to update this, yes its a harness adapter and I have a red label 413 the same as when it was in the other e30. I am also running two grounds they are on the stock e30 location to the bottom of the power steering pump and on the passenger side to the grounding point on the shock tower. The starter is now engaging and working properly, and I got fuel and pressure to the rail but now injectors are not getting power. The problem was the jumper harness had several pins that were in the wrong location. I should have checked that first. oh well, live and learn.

The issue was a bad cps and a totally wrong wiring harness adapter. I redid the wiring myself and it worked great!

Bump for a great wiring diagram. This is the most all inclusive late model wiring I have come across. Others leave out small details, and this one is spot on.

There is a slight mistake on your diagram.

E30 C101 pin 6 you state O2 sensor relay and on the S50 you say same wire is the Reverse Light switch ??

Maybe you want to edit the info and correct the error ?

              Thanks in advance.
