    WTS: 1988 325ix (MI)

This is almost a short story, so please be patient as you go through this and review the ENTIRE ad for details and information!

    · 1988 325ix Coupe
    · 5 speed
    · 163xxx miles (daily driver to work and back ~ 4 miles, so I log very few miles on it)
o I bought this at about 161xxx miles just over a year ago so rarely driven
o Has been a garage queen for some time since purchase while I have been cleaning up the car, updating any maintenance it needs and so forth

    · Lachssilber Metallic (203)
    o All panels with VIN
o Blackout trim (flaking in a few spots)
o Minor rust which can all be fixed repaired (no holes or total cancer)
§ 2 spots on top surface of sunroof (size of fingernail at worst)
§ Bottom corners of front doors and respective area on the door sill where the door closes
§ Under panel where license plates lights are attached – I would consider this needing most attention
    § Under rubber trunk gasket
    § Under trunk lid
§ Some clear coat peeling near these areas on the rear of the car
o Typical areas in the trunk and battery tray and CLEAN and SOLID J

    · Grey leather Sports interior
o Not cracked or ripped or torn
o Has some wear on front seats, but has had and get regular leather treatment so nice and supple
§ Driver has Bavarian autosport grey sheepskin cover
o Rear seats are almost without wear

    · It’s an 88, so it has all the “loaded” stuff
    o Maplight rearview mirror
    o Premium stereo
    o Electric roof (works great)
o Sport seats (work great – no heated seats though)
    o Trunk spoiler
    o Front Foglights
o 16 button OBC – perfect working order
    o PW, PL, PS

    · Jim Conforti/Turner Motorsport ix chip installed
o Euro timing and fuel curves
    o 20HP and ~15 ft/lb torque
    o Requires premium fuel
    o Comes with orig chip

    · Full tool kit

    · Crack-free dash

    · Blaunkput (Bahama) stereo with iPod aux input
    o Amber matches IP lights
    o Speakers upgraded
    o Amp added
    o Real stereo cables/wires used
o Orig stereo and speakers included with sale

    · Wheels
    o Orig ix rims (4)
§ Have rash and need to be refinished
    o Millie Miglia 15x6 (4)
    § Have rash
§ Altimax Artic directional snow tires (couple seasons old) with great tread and amazing in snow/ice
    o E30 14x6 Bottlecaps (4)
    § MINT
    § NEW tires (185/65-14) installed @ Discount Tire 2012
    · Extended lug stud conversion

    · Euro front license plate

    · Since I have had the car, I have continued to improving the car and taking care of anything it needs (HAVE RECEIPTS DOCUMENTING ALL PARTS and WORK)
o All this done since 161xx miles and car currently has 163xx miles!!!
o Refreshed all the drivetrain fluids (BavAuto) just to be sure
§ All fluids were in good shape without any smell, shavings or discoloration
o Recharged AC (already converted) professionally – blows cold!
o Gas would leak when filled due to old and corroded hard fuel lines coming from and going to the fuel tank
§ Replaced with OEM pre-bent hard lines professionally @ $500!!!
§ Replaced fuel filter as well
o Changed timing belt and water pump even though PO stated it was done recently

    · Cam shaft seal
    · Rocker Shaft plugs
    · Tensioner spring
    · Rotor
    · VC gasket
§ Degreased and repainted (hi-temp aluminum) VC, TB cover plates, T-stat housing, other misc pieces removed during the update
o Replaced TB housing coolant gasket
    o Replaced T-stat with 80deg and gasket
§ Reason: temp would stay between the blue and ¼ hash mark and I wanted the car to run closer to or at factory OEM temps for best performance (old t-stat included with sale)
    o Replaced belts
o Flushed cooling system and replaced with OEM BMW Coolant
§ New OEM radiator drain plug
§ All hoses in good shape without cracks or stressed
o Changed oil and oil filter after flushing cooling system
    § Mobil 1
    § Mann filter
o Replaced Blower resistor – works on all fan settings now
§ Blower motor makes noise – have a spare in great condition, all cleaned and greased, waiting to be installed (once it gets warm enough outside)

§ All new from Pelican Parts
    · F&R rotors
    · F&R brake pads
    · Rear emergency brake pads and hardware kit
    · F&R brake wear sensors
§ Brake system professionally flushed and rear emergency brakes adjusted professionally @ BMW specialist shop
o Front brakes would chatter as if going sliding (ABS kicking on) on dry roads.
§ Thought it was faulty ABS module so bought a verified working ix ABS module, but issue remained
§ Checked all fuses = good
§ Opened and verified the ABS relay under dash was in working order
§ Checked all speed sensors resistance
    · A couple came up with bad readings
    · Replaced speed sensors ($$$) with verified used speed sensors and issue went away – no more phantom ABS issues J
    · 2/18/13: Replaced fan clutch as a precaution as I was not sure if the 0deg weather was causing issues with old fan clutch
o Car has NEVER overheated and barely even touches the 1/2way mark even when parked @ idle

    · Could use attention in these areas:
o Driver side knee bolster – it’s there but has seen better says
o Oil level sensor – dirty or bad, but oil level is good; overhead light on
o Replace blower motor (good used spare included with sale)
o PS leaks ever so slightly – not sure from pump or hoses

    · Have a TON of spare parts which are included with the sale of the car

o Ix exhaust manifolds - good
o Brake light switch - NIB
    o PS pump
o More… (I will list them as I take inventory)

As you can tell, there is no “skimping” of parts or maintenance and everything has been documented. This is one of the few close to original and non-molested examples of the “few and rare 88 ix coupes”. I have video the “jack test” showing the AWD system works and is in good order. My goal was to turbo this, but with life and kids and other obligations, I never got around to it. This is a strong running car and is a blast to drive and ready to go cross-country! With attention to the few rust areas, this car will be perfect and last many years! Heck, my 9 y/o boy put dibs on the car with money he has earned mowing yards and shoveling snow! With a family of 5 (3 kids in boosters or car seats which dont all fit together), I am not able to use this all the time and thus seems silly to hang onto it. I have owned a couple of E34 M5’s, a couple E34’s, an E30 325ix prior to this so am not a stranger to these cars by any means and know what it takes to maintain them. All the work has been documented via receipts and/or pics from the PO and myself, which for these cars, is invaluable and will save you time and money in the short and long term!

If you are looking at this car, then you know what is out there in the market and the condition a vast majority of them are in… this is NOT one of them. Go ahead and add up all the recent, documented service done to the car, spare parts, turbo kit and cost of the car, and you will see this is a good deal.

Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts or would like any other information or particular pics.

I will have pics posted very soon, but as of right now, I only have cell phone pics which I can txt/email you.

    Jack Test = PASSED! :nice:

I will be updating the ad with more information as I take further inventory of parts I have accumulated over the past couple of years for this car.

I am in no hurry to sell or offload this car and will be happy to hang onto the car, so please don’t lowball – I will be happy to entertain reasonable CASH offers (emphasis on reasonable and CASH). CASH is king (by CASH I mean physical green in hand – not check or money order or Nigerian lotto ticket) and will get prompt attention J

(Might consider HK 45 USP-Tactical complete package , FN 5.7 complete package , Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup 10mm complete package , entry level 50BMG (non-Bohica) or ammo (1K lots of .45acp, 9mm, 10mm, 223/556 or 500rds 50BMG) as partial trades + a whole chunck of $$$$. Will valuate trade @ pre-gouging prices caused by this dumbass hysteria!)

Buyer is responsible for all shipping/transport arrangements. I am willing to pick up buyer from any of three local airports in my area (Lansing, Grand Rapids or Flint).

    Previous Owners history:

    · Bought it in Fall of 2005 at 126,000 miles (only put about 3500 miles in a year since).
    · Chicago car its entire life, though the underside doesn't look it (i.e., not concourse, but not rusty). PO claimed she washed frequently, garaged it always, didn't drive much in the winter, and always desalted when she did. Ben Thongsai, one of the preeminent BMW wrenches in Chicago and something of an authority in the BMWCCA, saw the car and said "it's been a long time since I've seen an iX this nice that actually got used."
    · Timing belt/tensioner/water pump, coolant flush, two oil/filter changes, brake fluid flush, diff fluid flush, t/case fluid check, rear driveshaft flex coupling, engine mounts, rear driveshaft (new reman), front guibo, front driveshaft remove/check/spline lube, A/C recharge (currently 134, is a little low but blows cold, though compressor makes a tiny bit of noise until it warms up), set front toe, fuel filter, main and fuel pump relays (can leave car stranded when they fail, and they fail without warning). Coolant hoses and belts are healthy. Shift linkage is slop-free. Healthy Boge (OE) shocks front and rear. Rear shock mounts done right before I bought the car. Everything electrical works, though the coolant level sensor occasionally fritzes and triggers the low-level light.
    · Viscous coupling in the transfer case is healthy, transfer case doesn't leak. Front and rear diffs are dry; steering rack weeps a little, but not enough to leave anything on the floor.
    · Fender-bender in parking garage immediately after I bought it led to the following: facelift/late bumper install (new bumper shocks/trim front and rear, repainted covers, used covers/bumpers/ beams), replaced front clip and repaired rust in front bumper shock boxes, new radiator/fan, new factory DOT-R fenders (discovered rust underneath rocker extensions on bottom when removed; replaced fenders). One new headlight. Factory paint remains everywhere but front fenders, front hood, front clip, front spoiler, and front wheelarch trim. No clearcoat hazing on factory paint. Some small blend/touchup work has been done at some point on one of the doors, but it's invisible in most light.
    · Negatives: Minor rust in trunklid under spoiler, minor rust on lip near roundel. Minor rust on sunroof panel. Could probably use a right rear wheel bearing, as it makes a little noise above 75 mph. Stereo tweeter housing in driver's door has a broken clip and occasionally pops out. Tape housing in center console has one broken tape holder; it doesn't pop up. Headlights need to be aimed; they're currently a tad low.
    · Aftermarket alarm is installed. I hate it, but I haven't removed it because 1) It gives you keyless entry, and 2) you can switch it off.
    · Added euro front grilles.

Next owner purchased @ 160xxx miles and had following done:

    · New left door lock cylinder
    · Coolant sensor
    · Removed alarm
    · Scorpion SS exhaust
    · Passenger rear wheel bearing
    · Parking brake cable
    · Dist. cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs etc.
    · New antenna
    · Tranny/diff fluid
    · Transfer case output seal
    · Sport springs front and rear
    · Work done mid-end of 2011
o Front-both sides- control arms, sway bar links, tie rods, bilstein HD struts, inner axle boots, brake pads, rotors
    o drivers front wheel bearing
o SS brake lines front rear
    · Kept up with basic maintenance and oil changes
    · Known Issues
o Blower resistor just went – runs only on high (4) setting
o Oil Level sensor dirty/bad – check light stays on but oil level is good
o Needs brake pad sensors (cut by shop when doing brakes)
    o Front Roundel missing
    o Some minor rust issues

forgot to mention, have complete intake manifold as well!

In essence, you have everything needed from intake manifold, throttle body, complete head and exhaust manifolds to mock up the entire turbo system before even putting it in the car! :D

I have had a number of inquiries about the turbo kit....
Willing to separate out the kit for $1200, so subtract that from package price; car and parts $7300.

Replaced fan clutch and all is well :) probably not needed, but I better err on side of precaution.

A few inquiries, so keep them coming. Please do not be intimidated by all the words in the OP... If anything it should be assuring that the car has been maintained and taken care of. Feel free to call me for specific questions.

Pics taken today! Had a big snow dump today and she was in heaven! :)
Please excuse the "un-vaccumed" interior - rigors of daily driving, yet clean. The car is wearing the Millie with the snow tires.
Hopefully, will have time this weekend to take pics of the spare parts and turbo kit.

                  Turbo kit details:
                  Turbo (T3/T4OE)
                  Turbo Manifold
Green top injectors (rebuild would be recommended)
                  MSD Boost timing master (used)
                  Intercooler (looks new)
                  Down pipe (looks new)
                  Wastegate adapter (used)
                  Greddy BOV
                  Greddy oil catch can (used)
                  38mm WG (2 bolt)
3in vband 5 bolt (Garrett) flange
Oil feed and return lines (New)
Misc. piping, couplings and bolts, …
