OK now im sure you guys remember me as the crazy guy who said he was gonna take an M50 swapped E30 and make it into an S52 with drivetrain in a weekend. And i thought i almost did. Turns out, the swap itself was just scratching the surface of this project. I went through 2 slave cylinders before saying F*** it and brought it to my local shop.
Well they did the slave cylinder, spaced up my right engine mount and banged my exhaust in and......
The engines shot :(
Ok so starting from the top (literally) the bearing surfaces of the journal bearing are shot and the cams, bearings, and caps are toast.
Now i bought this motor because it "supposedly" had a 5-angle valve job from VAC motor sports with all new seals, retainers, MLS head gasket, ARP studs, etc.
Turns out that it doesn't even look like the heads been off the engine. Now i dont know who was making stuff up along the line of this engines previous owners but at this point im over. It wasnt the guy i bought the engine from. He was extremely honest with me, and when i called him up he felt really bad and even refunded me some money. Honestly a great dude.
Anyways head comes off and they find that the #5 crank bearing is pooped too with some wear in the cylinder bores.
Lets let the fun begin.
Engines getting completely disassembled. Lower end and head are getting taken care of at a machine shop and we are going to replace just about everything.
Now the list isnt complete and this is going to be my build thread continued off of "The weekend M50-S52 swap".
But i can say that the build includes parts such as Wiseco pistons, Schrick 256/264 cams, MLS HG, ARP studs, 16lb stage 2 flywheel with a slight chance of an M5 sprung hub clutch... with much more cool (and expensive) stuff to come.
Stay tuned for updates!
