I have an Supercharged OBD1 S52 and there is excessive smoke coming from the crankcase breather, even at idle. I also have no surge at 4000rpms like I used to when the boost came on, now it feels like it going off all engine. There is also a weird can of marbles sound between 3500 and 4000rpm, but only while driving, and only in gears 3, 4, and 5. It might be the ebay headers hitting the subframe and buzzing, because it does go away as I accelerate more, but the noises are definitely originating on the passenger side only.

Not going to lie, I am a bit naive on the way the car was setup, I purchased it pre-built. I looked in to the bad rings, I dont have any blue/white smoke coming from the tail pipe, and the engine oil levels are fine.
I do have a weird vibration in the engine all the way through the gas pedal from 1000-2500rpm, then it smooths out, I changed the plugs, reset the dme, checked for vacuum leaks, and cleaned the ICV.
Im lost right now, and completely disgusted with the car. Trying to get out of it, but I dont want to give someone else a headache.

I just read through your threads of problems, I'm sorry.
You didn't over fill the engine with oil did you?
Get to your Mechanic and ask for a compression leakdown test.

I dont believe the oil was overfilled, the guy working on the car is a good mechanic.
As of today, the car suddenly has no boost at all...once I hit 4k RPM's, nothing happens, acceleration falls flat, and even before that acceleration isnt what it used to be.
I hate this car with all my heart, ive only been able to drive it for a total of about a month and a half since I bought it in July because its constantly broken.
Someone make me an offer and take this piece of shit off my hands. I am done

The exhaust gasket issue stemmed from the car sitting so low and the exhaust bottoming out, which pulled on the unit, backing out the flange bolts. new gasket took care of it.
Car still wont boost, leak down test coming on saturday. I dont have any smoke from the tailpipe and Im not burning oil so far as i can tell, but I just did an oil change last week. If the test comes back that I need new rings, I am just going to dump the car to whoever wants it from here. I dont have the money to tear the engine down and rebuild it. Start saving your pennies.

check your vanos timing. I just went through a myriad of issues with the S50 in my e30. running rich, black smoke, wouldn't start half the time..blah blah blah. Just figured out today that my VANOS assembly had locked up and the intake cam timing was way off.
I've got a buddy with a supercharged S52 M3. I can see if he could offer any help.'87 325ic, powered by S50.

Vanos was next, I didnt have any of the classic signs of a failure. I read through about 60 pages on this thread, I think I might have a fuel delivery issue. While driving the other day, I felt a couple of stumbles on the highway, which never happened before, and now the car doesnt accelerate at all. The other thing is when I bought the car and drove it home from FL to NY, I was getting about 340 miles to the tank and I was having a bit of fun with the car and driving 80-100mph, now Im getting no more than 200 miles per tank, and thats me feathering it locally or driving it between 60-70mph on the highway.
The plugs are brand new, gapped correctly according the what TRM recommended. Would bad fuel delivery contribute to the issues from 1000-2500rpm's, which smooth out with increased load?

Update time,
The good news is my leak down test came back pretty good, all cylinders were within 10% of each other inside the green on the gauge. We did a compression test as well, and all the cylinders hit 150psi and were within 3-5 psi of each other. My spark plugs looked perfect, they were only installed a week ago, but thats when this issue popped up. The sheaths on the coil packs were all white except the one on cylinder 6, not sure what that was about.
We took the crank case filter off and it was gross and full of oil. While off, there was noticeable smoke coming from the port it was attached to, and when we plugged it and opened the oil cap, the smoke was coming out of that. We attempted to blow forced air in to the breather tube, but couldnt hear any bubbling in the oil pan, and didnt hear any of air hissing out of the lines under the breather.
We also found that the outlet nipple on the forge diverter valve was loose, it is a screw in type and it needed 4 turns to get it tight against the valve. One thing we couldnt figure out is why the valve is stuck open when fully connected to the system. If I have this incorrect, tell me, but my understanding is the piston in the valve should stay closed in order to build boost, and when I either let go over the gas to switch gears or decellerate, it should open and release the pressure back in to the intake. Is this correct?
We checked the MAF and it was pretty clean but cleaned it with CRC clener anyway. The intake filter itself was disgusting, unfortunately none of the stores around us carried the new filter, so we got the cleaning kit and cleaned it out.
The stumbling is still at the lower RPM range (1000-2500) and I still dont feel the boost coming on at 4000rpm's like it used to. Could this be attributed to a bad Vanos? We hear no vacuum leaks at all.
Any other thoughts?
