    Andrew's s52 Zinno

    *s52 update post #28*

Hey Everyone, my name is Andrew from NJ.

I wanted to document and share my build here. I had the thread on e30tech so if this looks like a duplicate to a couple of you.. it pretty much is

Anyway, my '87 zinno 325is is getting an s50 with a bunch of other good stuff. Here she is:

With Henry's car on the right

Mines on the right in this one...

    Butt shot!

The car is at my buddy Cesar's shop, e30 Motoring in Rockaway NJ. Cesar is doing the work with my helping hand. It'll be the first 24v swap for the both of us, but I'm not worried. Cesar knows his way around an e30 better than anyone else I have seen. If you haven't seen his build thread:

    On the e30:
    -BC Racing coilovers
    -White325is rear strut bar
    -UUC e30 Big Brake Kit
    -New control arms/ball joints
    -Revshift m3 offset CABs
    -New inner/outer tie rods
    -New front wheel bearings
    -New Mishimoto late model radiator
    -e32 booster/master set up
    -UUC sway bars

    On the s50/ZF:
-UUC Evo short shift kit with dual sheer selector (for ZF 310/320)
    -e34 M5 organic clutch kit
    -UUC Stage 2 lightweight flywheel
-21.5 lb injectors with TRM chip for the whole setup
    -Revshift 24 swap Al guibo
    -e34 pan/sump/stick
    -New Bosch lower amp alternator
    -Turner Under-drive pulley kit
    -Stewart/EMP water pump
    -Al t-stat housing with 80* t-stat
    -New intake mani
    -New plugs
-New gaskets (pan, filter housing, VC)
    -Kamotors 3" Intake
-ebay headers (I know.. I know)

The best part - Cesar is fabbing a whole 2.5" 304L Stainless Steel exhaust for the car. Makes my wish I had the extra coin to get a legit set of headers, but hey... Next year.

My apologies ahead of time for the pictures I took on my phone... There's also a few quality ones in there too (Thank you Henry)

    Last sighting with m20

    Almost

    Yup

    Gone.

All the AC lines and condenser are gone now. Same with the wiper tank that fed the jets that never worked..

Front subframe cleaned with new control arms installed. Also my iphone fighting with the sun glare

Subframe is already back on the car.

This week I'm bringing the s50 up from my garage. First the booster and master are getting changed, then engine bay clean up/degrease and engine dressed. Hopefully we will have the s50 in place by Sunday afternoon

I'll definitely be there. I'm really hoping the car will be there too. All depends on how the next couple weekends go for progress

                  With her shirt off

                  Once more

New t-stat, t-stat housing, water pump, crank sensor, AC removed

e34 pan on. Cesar welded the pump nut so that's not going anywhere

You can see the pink top 21.5 lbers peeking out from under the fuel rail. Hideous red intake manifold removed. Ugly white painted oil filter housing cap swapped in favor of a wrinkle coat black one. Wanted to get the VC powder coated but not happening until after we get it breathing under the hood of the e30. And my pretty new Bosch alt didn't fit. Boo

I grabbed the wrong valve cover gasket so we're still waiting on that.. But in the meantime

                  Shwing!

                  e34 m5 clutch

ebay headers. Not tightened down. Still unsure if the motor can/will be placed with the headers on or off

The motor is almost all wired up. Everything else will get connected when it's in the car. The plan is to drop the motor the next time I'm up at the garage. The only thing the car needs before that happens is the brake booster and master. Oh.. and a little engine bay clean up

A few weekends ago we got the motor in. Again.. if this looks like a copy/paste from tech it's because it is!

                    Open wide

                    Just about

                    an dennn

                    Oh sht

                    Mounted!

Here's the booster, brake reservoir, and TPS connector clearance. Keeping in mind that the trans is hanging because it's not mounted yet...

Space between e32 735 booster and intake mani. Again, it's before the trans was mounted

I forgot to snap a picture when the trans brace was on. The motor looks a bit more natural in there now instead of tilted towards the back... obviously

The lighting sucks but here's how she sits now

It'll be lower when it's all done. About an inch lower. It's hard to see with the lighting but it rides a little high.

After the weekend here's what's left:
-Mishimoto radiator - fitment for early model
-2002 remote brake reservoir to clear TPS connector
-Grind trans output flange more. Got new OEM bolts and they weren't the same as the guide bolts
-Reroute fuel lines in engine bay
                    -Install ICV
                    -Hook up power steering
                    -Lines to the heater core
                    -DME connection
                    -Button up some wiring
                    -All fluids

I never got a picture after the trans was mounted and the engine was level. It looks like it belongs in there

Power steering res unsure where it belongs

Cesar mounted it here. Looks awesome

                      This excites me.

Think I can fit a clutch fan in there? Hmmm...

Test fitted radiator hoses. They had to be trimmed. They're clamped and lookin nice now

Cesar ditched the e36 s50 fuel filter and put new lines from the body to the fuel connectors under the intake mani. Will continue to use the e30 filter

Test fitted intake to make sure it fit okay and to see where there was space to mount the remote brake reservoir

Damn I love it. Intake mani is just resting on the head right now because there's still a couple things to button up down there

                      Left to do:
-Plumbing for the ICV. I'm picking some misc hoses today to see what will work. Go figure that neither of my 24v motors had full ICV set ups to pick from
-Hose from the back of the head to the heater core
-Connectors for remote brake res - Waiting on the part. Have the grommets/hose/res already
-Rubber mounts for upper radiator support - can't seem to find the right part.
-Connector and hose from brake booster to intake mani
-Hose from coolant exp tank to radiator
-Finish output flange and mount guibo

Seems like a lot left before we can try to fire it up, but there's really not. Just a few small things. I should have all the parts required to start this thing by tomorrow afternoon. Waiting on an order from Turner and another from FCP

The interior as it sits. A mess

After the motor is running I will likely be ditching the carpet that's in there for a molded carpet. I plan to do a center console delete and mount the window switches and cig lighter on the dash. I like not having the console in there. I'm a big dude and it feels like found space.

Here's how it sits now.. Higher than it was before with the H&R sports. The BCs are on the car, but still need to be height adjusted

Haha I've seen so much of that car I hardly notice it anymore. It's not mine and it's in pieces now (more so than in the picture you see). I promise I'll post a pic or two when he puts it back together

Thank you! Definitely not trying to cut any corners. As few as possible anyway

They are Samco e36 hoses and a Mishimoto e36 radiator. The hoses had to be trimmed but they fit really well. This is the rad here (sorry for the mobile link):

I know a couple people who have the same one in late model e30s
