SOLD
Hey R3v,
Time to sell the e30. I had it sold at $6,500 and then it got backed into in a parking lot. I repaired it (minus paint on the fender and valance) and had it sold again for $4,500. He then strung me along for over a month and then backed out. He did have a good reason...anyway, I need this car gone by the end of the month because I'm moving to Maui. I apologize for the length of this ad, but it should give you a pretty good idea of the car.

Here is an album with lots of pictures: http://s10.photobucket.com/user/Lyle...0%20for%20sale. This includes shots of the damage after and prior to me fixing it. Full disclosure here. All that is left to do is paint the 2 panels, but let me back up.
This car has been extremely reliable. Going off memory, I believe I'm the 3rd owner. 1st owner was an older lady, she bought it new from BMW Seattle or Bellevue and had it serviced there. She kept it a few years and then sold it to a BMW enthusiast who kept it garaged at his vacation home in eastern Washington. Both of them hardly drove it and it was nearly show car clean when I bought it. It was overdue on preventative maintenance which I did immediately at M Cars in Seattle, reputable high end shop. This was at 88k miles and included:
water pump
Timing Belt
Timing Belt tensioner
new fluids
Radiator hoses
cam seal
Thermostat
fan clutch
all other belts
I paid $6800 for the car and this work was $853.78 (have receipt). Mechanic was in love with the car. I have a folder with the PO's work, but I am having trouble finding it. I know it was reupholstered before I bought it, don't remember beyond that.
At this time, I was an installer at Car Toys, and the car got lots and lots of attention. I detailed it frequently and kept it in immaculate attention. I frequented r3v daily and began doing most of the work on it myself. I drove it to Bimmerfest in so cal from Seattle with zero issues, and have driven it without issue on all sorts of long trips. I absolutely would drive it anywhere, with no fear. It has been dead reliable. While in Seattle, it was not garage parked for the first time in it's life, and the winters took their toll on the soft top. During this time, I added:
Clifford alarm with hood and trunk pins and proximity sensor $500
Alpine head unit CDA-9887 $400
Alpine 4 channel amp bridged to fronts MRP-F250 $200
Focal crossovers in place of rear speakers
Pioneer silk dome tweeters
Euro grills $80
Shadowlined the chrome trim
Removed pin stripe
Euro smiley headlights $260
DDM HID kit $75
Replaced all worn switches and buttons
I moved to CA in 2010 and the car didn't get the love it deserved. It was rarely washed, and started to collect a couple minor dents and dings from being in a college town. While in CA, I picked up two special parts:
OEM hardtop, needs a headliner. $1200
OEM windscreen, has small hole in it, there is a DIY to repair out there for cheap $300
Clutch at 115k, turned out to be a broken spring (good indicator of how well cared for the car was, original clutch still had 35% life at 115k miles), but replaced clutch anyway with LUK brand.
From there, I moved to Eugene OR and my girlfriend began daily driving it. She drove it very little, maybe 5k/year. Since it's been in Eugene, I've done the following (within last 10k miles):
New Falken Ziex 912's all around $400
New pads $100?
New rotors $125?
Remanufactured steering rack $250?
New battery $110
New voltage regulator $55
New seatbelt receptacles $120
New hardtop pins $200
New hardtop wrench tool $25
New taillight gaskets $20
Removed, repainted and reinstalled all bumper trim, grills, windshield wiper arms, door handles, I lip
New JOM coilovers (some squeaking on pass side when turning right, entering driveway, think it needs to be raised a bit? It's low) $300
New LED light bar for 12 button obc (still not working, have replacement 12 button obc to install) $25
New, uninstalled bulbs for gauge cluster $5
New euro plate filler $50
New adjustable clutch pedal stop $10 awesome mod
New trim between windows to stop window rattling $120
New shift knob $40
It is still far and away cleaner that you'd expect for it's age, the paint is in great shape (except for the 2 panels, of course). If one wanted a show car or just wanted it perfect, it would need a respray, but it's paint you can be proud of. 2 dents in hood. I tried to be as thorough as possible in the pics, which makes it seem beat up, but a casual viewer won't notice any of that stuff.
On the inside, the trunk is almost perfect, the carpet is in great shape, all the panels are good except a ding in the back left one (dime sized). Dash is great, glovebox latches, etc. All in all, very clean except for the seats. They could stand to be done. I always planned on doing red, never got around to it.
Until 'the incident', the car had never been in any sort of accidents or had anything like that happen. I frequently got offers to buy it while out and about.
Due to the accident, I replaced:
CLEAN set of US ellips
Morimoto Ballasts and bulbs (nice upgrade over the DDM's, wow)
Off color fender and valance
euro grill (repainted all grill trim so it all matches)
The fogs and ducts remained uninstalled to make the paint disassembly easier. The trunk is full of new parts to do the maintenance: water pump kit, belts, valve cover gasket, etc etc. FULL of included parts.
The bad (in order of severity):
Needs to have fender and valance painted.
Soft top needs to be replaced, it's toast. Fully functioning power top, until I replaced the battery and voltage regulator. I have always toyed with the idea of yanking out the soft top and putting in a custom sub box and amp rack. I'm working on getting the power stuff back and working, I think I have it figured out. I firmly do NOT believe the motor is out or anything, I am confident it just needs to be re-synchronized.
Drivers seat is worn, has a split in the bottom of it. Top was down a lot, hard on the seats in the CA sun. I always intended to swap the grey for red but never got around to it. Passenger seat is pretty solid and the back looks good, never gets used.
Leaks oil. It's leaked since I've owned it, about a quart every 4k miles. I've found that if I change the oil at 3k I never get any oil lights coming on.
Time to do the belts and water pump. Could use a valve adjustment while you're there. Have all parts, all included with sale.
Speedo needs to be re-flowed (easy job) intermittently doesn't work. Odo and tach function perfectly.
Front right suspension squeaks on some slow, uphill tight right turns. Was told it's a bushing rubbing or something, haven't looked at it.
It's been a great car, and a constant companion. It gets thumbs ups and offers to buy all the time, from everyone from soccer moms to BMW enthusiasts, mechanics, guys at the parts store, etc...everyone loves it. Let me know if you have any questions! I make it sound worse than it really is, but I want to be very upfront on what the car needs for it to be perfect. I would love to see it go to someone here that will take care of it and give it the attention it deserves. It's been a great car and I wish I could take it with me to Maui, but that's not feasible.
Come and get it. I'm located in Eugene, OR and am free to show it virtually any time. I've gotten a decent amount of interest without trying to sell, so I think (and truly hope) it will go quickly. I need it off my plate to focus on the move and other priorities.
At this price, it would be a great candidate for someone to buy, paint the 2 panels, address the minor stuff and flip it at a tidy profit...though I'd rather see it go to a 'forever home'
Let me know if you have any questions!
