    A couple s50 swap questions

Hey guys, so I'm doing an s50 swap into my 1986 325e and I have run into a couple problems that I can't seem to find the answers to online.

First, I'm running a radiator from a 318i and I have the main two hoses connected but this one below the fluid tank is puzzling me and I have no idea where the hose goes from that.

Second, where does this hose go that comes from the fuel filter? My guess was the plastic end comes off and then it connects to the throttle body but I wanted to check

Third, what connects to the lower stud or whatever you call it.

Last, there is a hose back there that comes off the heater core lines and I have no idea what it connects to but I have all the other hoses connected to the block and into the fire wall.

If you guys could help me out that would be awesome, sorry for the noob questions, thanks.

This information is from looking at my OBD-I S52, which should be pretty similar

    1. This connects to a line underneath the intake manifold almost directly underneath the throttle body.

    2. That looks like one of the hoses that connects to the bottom of the intake boot

    3. I believe there is a line that goes from that stud to the ICV hose

    4. no idea offhand

Does #2 have a electrical connector on it? if so it looks like it goes to the charcoal canister.

if you go on realoem.com and lookup the coolant hose diagrams, they give a pretty clear view of what goes to what.

you have a spider coolant hose that goes from the heater core to the timing cover and has 2 hoses coming from the middle. one will go to your radiator coolant resivoir and one i believe heats the thottle body.

the small nipple on the bottom of the ICV clip that goes into the intake manifold goes to a similar nipple on the PCV clip that goes into the valve cover.

no electric connector. It goes to the canister that the fuel lines connect to.

I tried that, got a little lost because the spider hose is from my 86 325e and no diagrams actually show the way my hoses run.

Looking online it said I didn't need to run a hose that heats the throttle body but I'm guessing that extra hose back there is for that because it attatched to my throttle body on my old motor.

I don't have any other hoses or places for hoses to go so I'm still a little confused where that lower radiator hose from the bottom of the reservoir is supposed to go

            1. Connects at the spider hose.

            2/4 never seen

            3. Connects to the side of the iacv at the underside of the intake manifold.

              Perfect, thanks!

Just realized I'm missing the PCV valve and hoses coming from it:hitler:

Never again will I buy a "complete motor" from someone.

                OK update.

I have almost everything hooked up and figured out. I had to take of the intake manifold so I could get a better view of everything.

That said, I still have to to find where the radiator hose can go. I have everything connected but that and there is no where for it to go. No where on the spider hose is open.

I know the spider hose differs from year to year but since mine has no opening I have no idea what to do. Buy another spider hose? Or plug the radiator?

Take a pic with your intake manifold off. There is an obd1 spider hose and a obd2 coolant pipe. You should have an obd1 spider hose. A pic will help us better.

I was told I could use the spider hose from my m20, is that wrong? It all hooks up.

It may be possible, but I have never seen it done/done it. Going off memory here, the spider hose should connect from the back of the water pump, the coolant expansion tank (may need to get a longer peice of hose to reach m42 radiator), throttle body and heater core.

You must have something hooked up wrong then. On an M50 spider hose, there is two hoses that branch off the spider hose. One goes up to the expansion tank (the port you're wondering about) and the other is a smaller one to the throttle body.

M20 hose looks like it has one, aka the one that goes to the expansion tank. So I'm not sure where you have that going.

I have the long hose going to behind thermostat housing.

Looking at the pics I feel like I need to just get an m50 spider hose.

Same car here. I ended up using the e34 m50 spider hose which connects from the back of the thermostat housing, to the lower radiator hookup you posted above, the throttle body and back to the heater core.

From what I read, you can't use the M20 hose if you are running an M42 rad. Hope that helps.

Damn son, clean that mess up under there haha! yeah get an M50 spider hose.

Edit: And don't forget your engine mount arm ground right there on the drivers side mount arm.
