    Turn signals.

Well I'm in the process of getting my car inspected. The last shop wanted over $500 to inspect the car. They had all these BS things so I decided to bring it to another place.

On the way to the other place i noticed the turn singals would not work, but they did when i droped it off at that shop. the turns light up but they do not blink. On the gauge cluster the left and right turn singal lights stay lit. Basicly nothing happends when you try to turn the turn signals on.

This sound more of a problem than just a looose connection.

    Any suggestions?

    btw.
at the last shop I took the car to, the turn singals was the only problem they listed. After this I can drive!

mine are like that too, just assumed it was a bad flasher relay, and will be replaced when to that point on the project. Subscribed.

I did getto rig my connectors with radioshack connections, but it worked fine. Is there a possibility there was a short in the line? Would the lights stay on in the gauge cluster if that happend?

I'm hoping i can go down tomorrow, fix it and have the inspection stickers put on.

Don't know if this is your problem, but sounds like it might be mine --

        From another thread:

I looked up some info in the bentley. Basicly if the turn singals or the emergancy flashers are working then it is NOT the relay to blaim. Its eaither a loose connection or blown fuse.

I have this funny feeling its not a loose connection since the turn singals light up fine, they just don't blink! So for them to be lit up the connection has to be good. That only leaves me with a blown fuse hopfully.

If it is the relay that went out its probably from my ghetto connections I made. I would want to get the right connections when i buy a new relay if this is the case. I can't find the PN on realoem for the european turn singal connations anywhere. Can anyone give me the PN?

          THANKS

well I just brought the car back. My problem is bigger than I thought.

Basicly the flasher relay does work without the headlights on, but when the headlights are the relay does not work. Help!

And if you forgot what it was about it was the broken tab on the lights that make them useless which you sold to me and took about 4 months to acutally send to me.

Why dont you send me my money back and I will send you your lights back?

I told you about everything before you sent the money. I can dig it up if you want in my email.

Think it is possible that the relay would work with the headlights off and not on?
I'll look up the PN on realoem and order a new one.

                      edit:

get a good wiring diagram STUDY IT for a long time. a turn signal flasher need not be $45. If im right there is only one flasher relay. Im kina new to e30's but on my e28 there was only one, mounted on the steering column... i spent less than $20 on a new flasher. just a generic electronic flasher will work i believe .

but id say it isnt the flasher if it works at one point
... i kina suck at reading wiring diagrams so... try the switch on the turn signal mast it controls the highbeam headlights and the turn signals... maybe its the problem... the highbeams and turn signals also share G104 behind the left headlight as a ground umm my brain hurts from reading wiring diagrams so im gunna stop now

                          thanks for your help!

I'm having trouble understanding what you were trying to say there. Maybe clear it up when your headake goes away? ;) I would appriciate it greatly!

                          thank you

edit: and I do agree with you that it doesn't sound like the flasher relay since it works without the headlights on.

ok when you turn on your turn signals you click the arm up ordown right? the turn signal and highbeam switch is on the end of the arm. maybe something is shorting in the switch...

the ground for the headlights and the turnsignals is on the front fender behind the headlight its called G104 maybe something isnt makin contct there

i cant in my head picture what exactly would cause the symptoms u are describing but try those two
