Have you ever been duped in to joining an MLM pyramid?

I just got done getting the lecture of my life. I ran into an old friend.. well acquaintence.. well.. just someone who knew me from my retail job some 10 years ago. I don't know how he found me but he did and he seemed to be pretty excited about some pyramid gimmick that he was doing and trying to get me to do it.

What I didn't like was the fact that he supposedly came by to talk to me to say hello when he really had hidden motives. I guess I got wise to his bull within the first 10 minutes because apparently he was attempting to coax me into saying, "Yeah, man.. life sucks, I hate my job, I wish I had more money." This guy sat in my office for nearly 3 hours attempting to pitch his pyramid gimmick to myself and the other people who work here. And I am OK with this because its my goal to make door to door salesmen frustrate themselves into never comming back again.

I have about heard them all.. Prime America, Amway, Quixtar, Market America, YTB travel, and now they got this one called, "Mentored by a Millionare". All of these gimmicks seem to have the same theme or structrue.. uplines, downlines, leveraging, matrix levels, and so forth.. I even know guys who get into a different pyramid every couple of months.

OH! and the funny thing is that they ALL deny that they are in a pyramid scam suggesting that its EXACTLY like any other business. But its all the same crap- Pay them $100 so you can go find 5 people to give you $100. And then have each of them find 5 people. I almost got into Prime America because an old high school buddy told me that I could make $4000 a week but I would have to come to the meeting before he could make that promise. So I went. And when they pulled me into the high-pressure sales office, they told me that my buddy makes over $50K a month.

I wondered if that was the case, why was he still driving a beater with 4 different hub caps and living in a rooming house.

I've heard them all too.. I was never duped because I learned from my mother early in life how they worked when she was duped into Amway by a family member. In high school my best friend's parents were all about Amway and worshiped every stupid Amway "Diamond" motivation video. As soon as I turned 18 they tried to tell my I could make millions with my awesome intarweb skills.

Needless to say my mom caught on very early and quit. My best friend's parents are still probably in the process of trying to become Amway "Diamonds."

Another one a friend of mine got sucked into was Tristar Vacuums. He was all the time telling us how much dirt and dust was in our carpet and furniture, and how it was making us sick and we didn't know it. Then he proceeded to tell us how awesome the Tristar vacuum is because it was invented by "Jet Engine" engineers and how it sucks all the germs right out of the carpet. He proceeded to demonstrate how much dirt he could pull out of the carpet. My wife kept him going until he had piratically vacuumed the whole house then told him no thanks. (They wanted $1200 for a fucking vacuum cleaner.)

What pissed me off more than anything was how he was trained to use scare tactics on elderly people and push high interest financing on people even if they couldn't afford it.

Of course I've always believed the old saying that "A fool and his money are soon parted."

umm, the problem with a pyramid scheme (not the same as a ponzi scheme, although that's a rip-off too), and MLM's is that you run out of people at a exponential rate.

        With the example above:

        1 dude -> 5 people -> 25 people -> 125 people -> 625 people - > 3125 -> 15625 -> 78125 -> 390625 -> ~2mm -> ~10mm -> ~50mm

So in 11 steps you have half the population of america in your program, one more step and you're out of people. At that point the people at the bottom can't recoupe their investment and the people above them are making money.

And yes, they are all trained very well to handle the pyramid scheme question. The latest one pitched to me is for "fine" art. You buy a certain number of pieces of art, and broker 5 transactions, and bring 3 people in, and you'll make 30k a month. Something wacky.

To be legal like amway 70% of the profits need to come from product sales to non-members. Which in my eyes, allows 30% to be a scam.

It amazes me this stuff still is legal, more that people still buy into it. I've had many friends approach me about amway or the like, and in the end it makes me question their intelligence and our friendship.

First rule of sales, NEVER start your sales career by selling to friends and family. I'm in sales, and thankfully someone taught me that lesson when I started my career. Unfortunately every friend I have that takes a stab at selling real estate or insurance hits me up for a sale one week after they get out of training.

        ugh

What I like is when they say, "If you can't do business with your friend then what exactly does that say about your so-called friendship?"

My brother and I kept leading this quixtar guy on for about a month. We made breakfast/ lunch arrangements and then never showed up. It was fun.

I got called on one of these somehow through my schools jobs site.

Showed up and immediately realized what it was when you go to an interview and its like 50 people and a buffet. I swear all these people went to firm handshake classes. I told them I had OCD and didnt like being touched so that solved that one.

I ate a lot of food. Cant remember how much but I know people were looking at me funny. Then when all the meet and greet shit was over with and it was time to get the bullshit I mentioned that I had been kicked out of their scheme for skimming and they kicked me out.

I did get a # from a girl a year older than me who also realized what this was but wasnt quite as good as getting abusing it as I was. Actually, she was stupid. Hot, but stupid.
                    Im now E30less.

Yes.. its my polling/survey conspiracy. Every time I get you to respond, I get paid 50 cents from the upline. Would you like to be in my downline?

I've had a couple of people waste alot of my time with this shit- but not in a long time. Once people I barely know start talking to me about shit like this- I cut them off at the pass.

It's funny how all these idiots claim that their program is different and they swear up and down that it's in no way a pyramid scheme. But ask them to diagram the hierarchy of people in the organization and when it looks like a pyramid- you can put it in their face pretty easily.

Oh, and the people who claim that Amway and the other "old" MLM's aren't pyramids- they can suck my dick. There is a group of people who got in early who are rich as hell from that shit, but nothing compared to all the people who got suckered in and made -0-. There is a couple that lives not far from here that has made millions or billions from Amway- they remind me of Jim and Tammy Bakker from PTL back in the early 80's. They are SOOOOOOO fake and both wear tons of makeup and have really tacky taste in everything they do- kinda like Liberace....... :)
