    E30 M3 Cluster info ??

I have searched on here until I am blue in the face. I have also looked on bimmerforums as well. All I can find out is that the tach will be off even with my code plug in the M3 cluster and that the fuel gauge will be off as well since the tank on the M3 tanks are smaller. Also you have to wire the oil temp to a sending unit as well.

My question is has anyone come up with the fixes needed to make this work correctly in a 325i car. What exactly has to be done to make the tach work ? What has to be done to make the fuel gauge read correct ? Where to get the oil temp sending unit at and where and how to install it at?

It seems that everyone who has asked how to fix this in the past that no one has bothered to post what needs to be done to fix these issues. So please any helpful information on this topic is welcomed. Thanks

I have not heard about the issues with the fuel sender or the tach. In regards to the oil temp, James mentioned that he had an S14 sender tapped into his oil filter housing.

I have a cluster waiting to go in, but I probably wont get to it for a while at the rate I'm going... (see sig below)

I'm pretty sure (according to James who has done the swap), all you need is the coding plug. And obviously an oil sender.

Oil temp is easy, 3 wires, as well as the OEM sensor. Then tap the center bolt that holds the oil filter housing onto the block.

For the tach, if you want it to read properly with the M20, and have an 8k range, then it needs to be custom calibrated.

As no M20 can rev higher then 7K reliably, this is no issue, simply swap over the gauge face, as well as the coding plug and all is well.

For the Fuel Gauge, I have an early model tank (12gal) so the needle is correct, if you have a later model with the larger tank, you may need to swap the red needle over to a late model fuel gauge, and simply install it.

What James said! I did exactly the same....but I used an aftermarket sender (no big difference in method though).

Plus...if you want OEM goodness for the oil temp wiring, you can buy the right plug for the back of the cluster from VDO. I'll try and find the part number...remind me if you don't hear from me.

IIRC Dakota Digital makes a nifty adjuster.

Did you read this ?? qoute below then ?? I should add that I have a dinan chip as well on a m20 and it gets nowhere near 8k...
