okay, so my s50 project is going to be done in the near future, and its time to sell my DD 318is. heres the run down.
I bought the car 2 years ago with a blown motor. the PO most likely money shifted the car on his daily commute (had to pick up the car in Palo Alto even though seller lives in SF), and dropped a valve totally destroying the engine beyond all repair. i towed the car to storage, then began searching for a replacement m42. after about 6 months of searching i realized a good running m42 wasnt as cheap or easy to find as i thought, so i started to look for a running 318i w/bad body instead. i found a 1991 4dr 318i w/ 160K on the motor, but a rough body. bought that car and stuck it into storage with the 318is.
now fast forward one year later, and i finally get time to do the swap. remove entire BAD drivetrain from 318is, junk the motor, remove entire drivetrain from 318i, removed intake manifold and replace profile gaskets, clean alotta grime off the motor, then re-intall the motor into my 318is. flush the fluids, take the best parts of the 2 and combine into 1 solid running motor. junk the 318i4dr with the bad motor placed in the trunk, hehe. then the 318is sits for another 6months while i spend most my time collecting parts for my s50 swap. in Sept this year i put my 325is out of commission, and take the 318is out to DD duty, go to get it smogged, passes CA emmissions with flying colors. awesome. chassis has 212K miles, motor/tranny has 162K miles.
so for the last 2 months i have been driving the 318is, and the drivetrain runs great, very strong, sounds good. only issue that has developed in the last couple months is a leak in the PS system. drop a few drips every nite. other than that, the car has been great. its BONE STOCK. no mods at all. interior is immaculate, body is straight, paint is like 7/10, need a nice cut/polish to bring out the shine on this single stage paint. i just havent had time to do a proper detail. car has clean title. Origionally i wanted $3500 for this car, but considering the rack leak and the need for nice detail job, i have changed the price to $3000FIRM.
new parts on car within last 1k miles: spark plugs OE, oil change/filter, battery, 3 coolant hoses/flushed coolant with bmw oe coolant, ICV new oe.
