1985 BMW E30 Baur TC2 Project: Baur Parts Old & New + Restored Shell & Suspension + Upgrades

Selling my 1985 E30 Baur restoration project. All reasonable offers will be considered.

This was never intended to be a flip. The plan was always to keep it in the family, which is why I spent the time doing things the way I did. Unfortunately, too many projects and not enough years left to finish them all.

BODYWORK:

The car has undergone extensive rust repair and metalwork. I performed the welding myself. I am not a professional body man or welder, and I am not claiming body-shop quality work. What I can say is that every repair was done with the intention of building a solid long-term car, not covering things up for resale.

~ All repaired areas were stripped, treated, sealed with POR-15, and protected.
~ Rust-prone areas on the underside were coated with POR-15 and then undercoated with the POR15 undercoat.
~ The engine bay was de-rusted, POR15 coated, and then POR15 Top-Coat.
~ The interior floor and repaired areas were also treated with POR-15 before receiving sound deadening material.
~ The shell was primed, leveled and block sanded.

It is now at or near the point where it needs final bodywork details, primer sealer, and paint preparation. The major rust repair phase is behind it. New steel was welded in. The POR15 has stood up to 5+ years sitting in a warehouse without even a blemish.

INCLUDED:

* Original Baur roof mechanisms
* Powder coated subframes
* Powder coated swing arms
* Never-installed professional replacement convertible top manufactured in the UK specifically for the Baur
* DTMFiberworks fenders (primed and blocked sanded)
* Suspension Techniques sway bar set
* Garagistic steering upgrade
* Three large boxes of OEM e30 parts removed from the car. (Too many OEM parts to mention)
* Transmission for an e30 4-cyl
* All four side windows
* Side skirts fitted, sanded, and primed
* Hood, doors, and major body panels fitted to the car

NOT INCLUDED:

* Windshield
* Engine
* Bumpers or Skirts
* Title (Florida title was lost decades ago during a hurricane; car was purchased in the early 2000s and never returned to the road)

This is not a finished restoration. It is not a perfect shell. What it is, is a rare E30 Baur that has had an enormous amount of labor invested into saving it. I'd rather see it go to someone who appreciates what it is and finishes it than let it sit another decade.

Happy to discuss the work that has been completed.

PRICE: $4,800 OBO - Negotiable. Any reasonable offer will be considered. Low-ballers will simply be insulted then blocked. :) :)

PAYMENT: Cash or Bank Transfer. (Shipped/Released after money clears if transfer)

LOCATION: The car is in Julian, CA 92036

SHIPPING: I will gladly crate and ship for 15% additional to the cost of freight + insurance + $175 per crate. I work with a very affordable freight company, or am happy to coordinate with yours.

SOLD

Hi everyone,

Selling my 1990 325i Bronzit Coupe. 230k miles TMU. I've owned this car for the last 6 years after buying from a fellow r3vlimited member (listing from when I purchased (https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forum/e30-classified-forums/for-sale-wanted/cars-for-sale-wanted/9928022-wts-1990-325i-coupe-bronzit)).

Located in Allston, MA (Boston)

During my ownership I have done the following to the car:
replaced timing belt
replaced serpentine belt, PS belt, water pump belt
replaced timing belt tensioner
replaced valve cover gasket
water pump
water pump gasket
thermostat
rebuilt clutch master cylinder
replaced clutch slave cylinder
replaced clutch hydraulic line
replaced hose from brake master cylinder to clutch master cylinder
new fuel filter
new fuel filter hoses
new engine bay fuel hoses
new windshield wiper washer hoses
Fixed turn signals
New radiator sensor
rebuilt hood latch
replaced hood strut
replaced hood insulation
bled brake fluid
flushed coolant
wind shield wipers replaced
fixed check panel
replaced abs sensor rear passenger wheel
repaired abs sensor rear driver wheel
replaced all four struts with Bilstein b6's
new strut mounts front and rear
new spring pads
replaced rear sway bar links
replaced subframe bushings
replaced rear trailing arm bushings (All rear bushing work was completed by German Performance Service in Allston)
replaced dome light brackets
repaired broken odometer gears
replaced knee panel support bolster
replaced pedal panel
replaced door chime
install black door cards and rear panels
install black leather interior
install rebuilt black leather sport seats
install new inner glove box panel
dye interior floor mats
new speaker kicker panels
had new floor pan welded, seam sealed, rubberized undercoating applied
Replaced sunroof panel
replaced fuel level sender o ring
replaced windshield wiper fluid motor
removed and replaced airbag steering wheel with Mtech 1 wheel
installed IS rear spoiler
Stromung stainless catback exhaust

All parts are either OEM or very high quality aftermarket

The car has only seen roughly 3000 miles in my 6 years of ownership as I put it in climate control garage storage from November to May. Included with the sale is an un-cracked dash that I simply never got around to installing as the one in the car currently has only two cracks. I also have some original parts that I have taken off the car: the airbag wheel, the tan door cards, and few other odds and ends. The original tan comfort interior was sold.

The car presents incredibly well, and while not perfect, should serve as a good starting point especially with a majority of 325is features, for whoever wishes to start their own e30 journey.

Car is sold, thanks everyone!

Hi everyone,

It’s been quite a few years since I’ve posted here. Some of you may remember the build thread for my E30 project. Life got busy, the project kept evolving, and what I originally thought would be an M62swap ended up being a Tesla EV swap and a five-year obsession.

The car is finally finished, sorted, and currently being auctioned on Bring a Trailer, so I thought I’d come back and share it with the community that followed it in the early days.

The finished car uses a Tesla Model S Large Drive Unit with Plaid internals, an EV West conversion system, 13 LG Chem JP3 battery modules, EV Controls T-2C controller, Dilithium BMS, dual onboard chargers, NACS charging, custom battery enclosures, and a completely redesigned electrical system.

Whether EV conversions are your thing or not, I think many of you will appreciate the engineering, fabrication, and attention to detail that went into the build. I’d genuinely enjoy hearing what fellow E30 enthusiasts think.

The auction still has a few days remaining if anyone would like to take a look:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1986-bmw-325e-57/

And if anyone has questions about the build—good, bad, or technical—I’d be happy to answer them!

It’s good to be back. Sorry I’ve been so quiet.

Bought the car in 2019 from California. The owner had bought the car directly from CATuned. I actually sold the motor and trans back to Igor during the swap. I have tons of before and after pictures, but figured I would just place a few here. If anyone is seriously interested, I have a link to a Dropbox folder I can send with the remainder. Project took me about 2yrs to complete. Looking to move on to another project and wanted to give the E30 fans a shot prior to listing on BaT. The car is in NY (Long Island). Please let me know if you have any questions. Asking $40,000 obo.

Build summary includes:

Full tear down to shell and reassembled with new OEM/custom parts.
Car was fully repainted once stripped - paint is a 9 out of 10
Various parts were powder coated
A lot of the OEM parts are NLA and had to be sourced over time; including:

All new moldings
All new windows including rear pop-outs
All new seals including doors, windows, hood, trunk etc.
All new clips/fasteners
All new “euro” bumpers
Authentic full Mtech 1 body kit
Carbon fiber hood, splitter and sunroof delete
New headlights, fog lights, tail lights, turn signals
New front grills
New carpet (main cabin and trunk)
New custom seats (front and back)
New custom door cards
Re-wrapped steering wheel, center console etc.
New custom headliner

Entire interior of shell was insulated with dynomat
Reinforced shock mounts, subframe and rear end
Replaced all bushings
Wilwood front brake kit. Rear brakes converted to disks
Wilwood pedal set
Tilton brake/clutch reservoir
All new brake/clutch lines
Front and rear sway bars
Full custom set of Ground Control coilovers
Full engine (1JZ VVTI) and transmission (R154) swap

Pulled original engine and transmission
New engine was compression checked, tore down, re-assembled/re-sealed
Transmission was reinforced
Custom turbo manifold – ceramic coated
New Garrett BB turbo
New Tial wastegate and BOV
New FPR
All custom intercooler lines, radiator lines etc

New motor mounts, drive shaft etc

1986 BMW 325 E30 4-Door Sedan – 38-Year Ownership – Clean California Title/Smog – $3,200 OBO

Selling my 1986 BMW 325 E30 sedan after 38 years of continuous ownership. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find an E30 with this kind of long-term ownership history.

Details:

38 years of continuous ownership
Clean California title in my name
Registered and currently licensed in California
Located in North Orange County, CA
Recent California smog certificate
Odometer stopped at 90k. Estimated actual miles ~150k. Parked for periods between 1993-2016, but maintained with regular oil changes.
Driven locally on a weekly basis in California from 2016 until a few weeks ago.
Timing belt replaced 2021. Manual transmission 5 speed.
I recently purchased a new car and no longer have the garage space or time to continue working on or storing this one.

Known Issues:

Intermittent starting issue (starts right up some days, takes effort on others).
Transmission needs work (no 4th gear).
Needs cosmetic restoration: Surface rust present, including a small spot near the trunk edge and light surface rust on the rear door sills.

Price: $3,200 or best reasonable offer. Cash only. Serious inquiries only.
