FS: 1989 325i Coupe (Damaged) — Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley)

    Hello R3v Community,

I’ve decided to sell my coupe, which unfortunately was hit about two months ago. Below, I've listed the good and the bad.

    The basics:
    • ’89 325i coupe, bronzit, automatic. Mileage on chassis is around 330k.

    The good:
    • I’ve owned and loved this car for 16 yrs. I bought it from my best friend in 2008; his parents bought it for him ca. 1996.
    • Adult-owned daily driver that I slowly fixed up over time
    • I have service records going back to the late 1990s — all from the same shop
    • 14” BBS/basket weaves w/ center caps, with 205/60/r14 ‘Joyroad’ tires with pretty good tread life remaining
    • Transmission rebuilt in 2012, about 85k miles ago. Regular service performed at recommended 30k mile intervals
    • Driveshaft replaced with one utilizing regreasible, replaceable u-joints from Driveline Service in Portland, OR
    • New oem oil pan, oil pump and drive gear, as well as all bottom-end bearings replaced at around 240k miles.
    • No leaks
    • Recent service items:
      • new oem BMW/Bosch fuel injectors installed last year; intake removed and cleaned
      • 4.10 LSD installed last year, with verified 89k miles
      • New oem coolant reservoir installed last year
      • new oem front wheel bearings installed in the last year or so
    Other info:
      • Replacement color-correct body panels will be included in sale (right side door, right side fender)
      • Very good condition original leatherette interior
      • Except for damaged area, body is also in very good shape overall. I did a full paint correction about 13 years ago, and have maintained the paint since then. Mostly paint still shows very well.
      • Car is drivable, despite damage
      • I've removed a few parts: an NOS sunroof crank that I had recently installed, the front and rear spoilers, the euro license plate filler panel, and the NOS left side rear bumper trim. I will include the rear spoiler and bumper trim if buyer wishes. I may consider including the NOS sunroof crank. The rear spoiler was affixed with epoxy. I removed the studs because I didn't want to drill holes in the trunk.

    The Bad:
    • Car will come with a salvage title
    • Engine runs well, but uses a lot of oil and needs a rebuild.
    • Transmission works fine, but transmission valve body is old and a bit dirty: this means that sometimes you might notice a slight " twitch/nudge" when sitting at idle. Performance is not affected.
    • Left/driver side seat is cosmetically excellent, but occasionally the seat back slips. It should be repaired internally to ensure perfect performance.

    Asking: $3,500 or reasonable offer

Ideally looking for a buyer who wants to repair and maintain. Looking to sell soon, as the car is at my mechanic’s shop in North Hollywood. Will NOT part out.

    Thanks for reading,

Bummer about the wreck. I hope you’re okay.

What can you tell us about the front end damage? How bad is the frame? I mean besides the body panels & bumper needing to be replaced.

Thanks! I'm recovering, but the fear of other drivers sticks. My shop guy says it can be fixed, but he suspects that there is some lateral (sideways movement) frame damage that could be tricky to deal with. My initial plan was to rebuild. I decided to move on because I had already been planning other work for the car, which would have driven costs sky high -- a complete engine rebuild and a 5-speed swap sometime this year.

Tempting and near me… but wife says I have too many cars lol.

Would you consider selling the rear bumper trim that you said you removed?

Normally I might, but I have NOS center and right trim as well and want to keep them as a set for future use.
