Up for sale is my 1987 BMW 325i convertible. This is an ideal project for someone looking for a car with a fantastic, rust-free chassis and strong mechanicals, but who doesn't mind tackling cosmetic issues. I'm being fully transparent about the car's condition to help you decide if it's the right fit for you.
The Good: A Rare and Solid Foundation
- Rust-Free Chassis: This car spent its life in a dry climate and is completely rust-free. I have inspected all the common problem areas—jacking points, battery tray, rear shock towers, and fender arches—and they are all solid.
- Strong M20 Engine: The 2.5L inline-six is the heart of this car, and it runs very well with no major oil leaks. It pulls strong and has been a reliable runner despite the mileage. It's a testament to the M20's durability.
- Good Convertible Top: The soft top is in great condition with no rips or tears. The mechanism works as it should, saving you a major and expensive repair.
- High Mileage: The odometer shows just over 200,000 miles. While the engine is strong, the high mileage is reflected in the car's overall cosmetic wear and tear.
- Destroyed Seats: The interior is in poor shape. The seats are very worn and ripped and will need to be replaced or completely reupholstered.
- Faded Paint & Dents: The paint is faded, and there are a couple of dents on the passenger door and the driver's side front fender. A full respray would be needed to bring the exterior back to a high standard.
This car is not a show queen, but it's an honest and sound classic that drives beautifully. If you are an enthusiast who can look past the cosmetics and is searching for a solid, rust-free E30 chassis with a healthy engine and a good top, this is the perfect project for you.
