These m20's go for much longer than 200k miles.Originally posted by fakeplstctreesOK, here is an innocent question. I mean no malice or ill intent by asking it, only for the sake of my own curiosity and intent to gain knowledge. So please, anyone with a negative attitude or something unkind to say, I ask that you keep it to yourself.
That being said, I know that the M20b25 engine is one of the greatest engines of all time, I have nothing but the utmost respect for it and the engineers in Munich who designed it. But, like everything in the universe, it is subject to entropy, no matter the level of care that has gone into maintaining it. or how well it has been treated. It will one day reach the amount of mileage where it can go on no longer go on. I understand that this car has been LOVED for a very long time, but with over 20 years and 200K of miles, it must be near it's end? Right?
The car is gorgeous, and in CA, so probably no rust at all. But, the age and mileage are a concern to me. Is the car really worth the asking price, if it has not been rebuilt? I am just trying to understand the pricing structure, so I can properly value my own E30 vert, and budget to acquire a coupe? Thanks guys.
Bump, good luck. Super clean!Comment

rolling shassis alone of 1989-1991 coupe is worth $5000 as long as the body is straight, meaning, no damage no dents, no rust. 50k miles or 800k miles, no difference.Originally posted by fakeplstctreesbut with over 20 years and 200K of miles, it must be near it's end? Right?

Convertibles are the ones you buy for $1000 just to have for parts when you have your coupe.Comment

not even close. with proper care and maintenance, there's absolutely no reason this example couldn't go on for another 20 years and 200k miles, if not longer.Originally posted by fakeplstctreesI understand that this car has been LOVED for a very long time, but with over 20 years and 200K of miles, it must be near it's end? cars like this die due to caretaker neglect, not because it's some kind of ticking time bomb waiting to go off.

With all the goodies including excellent wheels and great original paint, I'd be upset if you took less than your asking. In fact, if someone offers you less tell them the new price just for them is 6k.Comment

I just had the pleasure of driving this car. it might be the most undersold car this year. hands down the best maintained cleanest 200K+ mile e30 iv'e ever seen. The owner knows what quality is and it is shown in a parts-upgrade list that is perfect. minus two minor issues this car is easily a $9k+ car
To fakeplstctrees, while you are semi right with the engine being at what i call "Not young" this one had most of it's life still in it. I personally would rebuild bc that is how i am. But this one in no way needs to be rebuilt. I have driven many car with much fewer miles that were much more tired, it's all about maintenance, and the owners of this car have truly done a great job with it.
Lou, thx for taking care of her as you have!Comment

Just thought I'd chime in here. There are two sides to the mileage/rebuild issue. Yes if the car was maintained the engine most likely has years of driving left in it. In these cars it's very important. (And expensive) to change the timing belts (that's why m50/m52 swapped cars have high value-- timings chains instead of belts= no belt change)
My father has a 1999 c280 Mercedes he bought new. Car has 325,000 miles. Many of the plastic/interior trim pieces have gone well before the engine and that's the result of religious maintenece.
An easy way to determine the condition of the engine is to get compression numbers. 210 on each cylinder is perfect (new) so anything from 170--210 is excellent. Although Ive seen cars with lower compression numbers sell for more than this seller is asking.
Definitely a good buy and BEAUTIFUL CAR
In addition, i wouldn't say "rolling shells" of 89-91 coupes are selling for $5000+. While sexy and desirable right now, 89-91 coupes have some of the highest production numbers of any of the e30s made (and are also the last models) hence there are quite a few of them still around. Just go down this for sale section and count the number of them up on this thread alone. Maybe an earlier shell with a true mtech 1 kit or a newer one with a mtech 2 kit or an e30 m3 shell.
A 90 e30 m3 rolling shell just sold here on atl craigslist for $5500 and i personally considered that on the high end of fair
I digress though ....
COMPRESSION NUMBERS?

This is the cleanest e30 I've seen since my 91 318 sedan was rear eneded, going through multiple banks just to get this car! Let's appreciate a true enthusiast with a very good eye for cars and how they should be modified!Comment

Yea I needed to get some extra cash from my bank, I just partnered up with my bestfriend to open a barber/tattoo shop, money's tight right now, when I saw this I just had to have it. But I'm happy it went to a good home! I will let r3v know when it's open discounts for all r3v members! Except the one who bitch about others personal finance!Comment
