    WTB E30 3xxiS Illinois

I'd like to buy an E30 318/325 in Chicago, Illinois/midwest (though I'll go to California for absolutely the right car...). I prefer silver and black.

I am not interested in a project car at all. I would like a clean car with preferably under 100,000 miles on it however will consider extremely well maintained examples around that. There must be no rust and I also prefer original paint.

I have a serious budget at $16k and realize this is the car everyone wants.

I look forward to finding one...!!

Thanks, I really hope so. Twelve years ago you could buy a near perfect E30 M3 with 100k or less on it for $15,000. Today it's three times that. Seems that the nicest of the E30's have disappeared into collections and deep into garages.

Hope to find a good one. Have been seriously considering the 318iS that Enthusiast Auto has right now but it's just so highly priced that I'm not sure I'll be able to do that one.

With that budget you could consider importing one from Germany. Check out www.mobile.de

They came down just a touch, but I can't justify spending that kind of money. I'll probably regret it in five years but I just cannot do it.

I actually did browse that site a bit and find a couple of pretty cool 318's but none of the sellers are emailing me back. They probably think that it is spam :( I have to contact a friend of mine that lives in Germany.

                    Thank you though!!

If you budget is serious, you won't have any problems finding an exceptionally clean 318/325...be patient, for that money you ought to get the one you really want.

Thanks, I intend to. I have passed on a bunch of cars already and the elephant gun is loaded and ready to go for the right car.

I'm at a point in my life where I want to enjoy a nice car... family and work prevents from spending time under the hood so I need something that is relatively ready-to-run. Of course there's always something but I don't currently have the time to be redoing an interior or a body.

Almost pulled the trigger on the 318iS that Enthusiast has, but the price is just a bit of a stretch. Might need to see that one sell at that price before I consider raising my budget even further than $16000.

                          Thanks,

Enthusiast is a bit of a rip, but that car is gorgeous. I certainly understand the temptation. I think, however, that at your budget, you shouldn't have any problem. You are at the very top of the e30 range and can afford to be very discerning at such a price point. I would also be looking for a slicktop (no sunroof) as this will add to the value of the car, and won't hurt you down the road. It's the rarest of the 318 iterations. I hope you decide to post what you eventually buy...it ought to be something to behold! GL with your search!

The market is certainly drier than when I visited it five years ago. They will sell that car at that price. They recently sold a white/tan (which I believe to be an inferior color combo to the red/black) with 74,000 miles on it for $23,995 so I have no doubt they'll get what they want for it.

I would consider a slicktop. Would not refuse a nice slicktop that was good in all other aspects. I actually prefer the sunroof for utility purposes but the rareness / re-saleability of the slicktops are nice.

I'll definitely post once I get it as I'm sure there will be a few things to correct / make nice on even the very best of cars.

                              Thanks again!
