I have a non running fairly clean 1990 325i, my daughter's first car that somehow was neglected for a timing belt change. Head was damaged and she moved on to a 2001 330ci. Not sure if you've seen my post, but it's a 85 325e with S50 swap. A little bit more of your price range, but might be a perfect candidate of what your looking for. Also accepting trades for guns and cash if that will help.
