SOLD! FS: '87 325i Cabrio, Delphin Gray/Pearl Beige, 5-spd manual, 144k, Austin TX

UPDATE: SOLD! For anyone curious, it sold for $4,250 locally on Craigslist.

For sale is my 1987 BMW 325i Convertible in Delphin Gray with Pearl Beige interior and gold BBS spoke rims. I really don't want to part with this car but since buying a wagon earlier this year the e30 mostly just sits in the driveway, and leaving a car like this in the driveway is downright shameful.

This was my daily driver for nearly eight years. It's an utter blast to take on weekend Hill Country drives and is great for touring nearby Texas towns (you see everything in the convertible). The 6-cylinder M20 engine is powerful enough that you can really have a lot of fun on twisty back roads, but not so powerful that you feel reckless doing so. The engine produces a deep, rich note that sounds beautiful at both low revs and high and makes driving with the top down all the better. The steering feels deliberate and direct, heavier than modern cars but definitely not laborious. The pedals are incredibly smooth and well-positioned for heel-toe, and the 5-speed manual gearbox feels solid and mechanical. All this makes for an engaged and throughly enjoyable driving experience.

I've kept detailed records of all the work I've done myself and had done by local shops since I've owned the car. Some selected maintenance milestones include (current odometer reading is 144,000):
    • Engine oil & transmission fluid change @ 143,918
    • Valve adjustment @ 141,913
    • Major tune (filters, plugs, distributor, etc.) @ 141,913
    • Timing belt & water pump @ 132,750
    • New tires @ 132,712
    • Clutch @ 113,001

Almost everything in the car is stock, with the only exceptions being:
    • I installed a Race Skids strut brace on the underside of the car (visible in one of the photos) to help stiffen the front end and reduce cowl shake
    • The BBS wheels look like they came off a VW Golf from the same era, but I could be wrong. There's a full-size stock bottle cap wheel in the trunk

The car is in really great shape for its age. The paint looks new except for some real wear on the driver side rear view mirror and some wear around the perimeter of the windshield. The manual cloth top has been well-maintained with 303 cloth top protectant and the perimeter gaskets still seal pretty well (though will drip in torrential rains). I've tried to keep the engine bay clean, and with the exception of a slow PS fluid leak I've managed to do so.

This is a 33-year old car, though, and it shows in places. The dashboard and the leather seats are badly cracked in all the areas typical of this model (see photos). The factory radio only works sometimes and when it does, the speakers tend to cut out intermittently. The glove box has come off the dash and needs a new part to be re-installed (which I've ordered and am waiting on). Last, the A/C has not worked as long as I've owned it. It's still set up for the old R12 refrigerant and I've never looked in to getting it converted.

The Missouri title is current and ready to sign over (I didn't title the car in Texas when we moved from St Louis), and it just passed its safety inspection so is good through December 2021. I have more photos and maintenance history available, so if there's anything else you want to see or know, please ask. I've priced this car at $4,750 based on everything I've listed above. With that said, I'd be willing to consider reasonable offers.

I'm in Austin, TX. Happy to drive a little ways to meet someone looking from Houston, San Antonio, etc., but only for serious buyers. If there's anything you want to know that's not described in the listing below, please hit me up at jonhagaratgmaildotcom or (five one two) 739-4101.
