I've hear the term dogleg, dogbox etc in the German car scene. Whare is the dog designation desribing? No sychros and straight cut gears rather than a traditional helical cut gear and brass synchros?

      Answer to my own question:

A dog leg gearbox is a manual transmission layout with an up-over-up shift between first and second gear. The layout derives its name from a dog's hind leg, with its sharp angles.

I guess is can be attractive to have the shift between 2-3 be in a stright line on some road courses.

That and the gearing is different. The "dog" box has a 1-1 fifth gear and the regular one is 1-1 4th and 5th is an OD gear, .81 IIRC

Jean is correct that this should have been the standard transmission and not the OD one. And the only reason I have this trans is because Jean called me at the crack of dawn yesterday and gave me a "heads up". Thanks buddy, your commission check is in the mail.

OK, it's officially "For Sale" now and I want $750 + shipping for it. I will stick it on eBay if I don't find a buyer in a day or two here or on NorCalE30.com where it is also listed. On eBay I will make it a $850 reserve auction with a "Buy it Now" of probably $1,100. I know it is a lot of money, but parts this rare sell for these kind of prices.

I just measured it and it is 21 1/2" or 545MM from the rear of the Giubo flange to the front edge of the bell housing. I believe the 260 is 20 3/4" if memory serves me correctly, but I don't have one to measure. I will see if the driveshaft is still in the car tomorrow, but I don't know what the rear U-Joint is like as I didn't remove the shaft for the car. If the differance is only 3/4" I think you might be fine with your old driveshaft anyway. Maybe. The Giubo is the smaller more common one so no problems there. If I send you the driveshaft it's another $125 and again I don't know what kind of shape the rear U-Joint is in. It uses the standard clutch disc.

Please, don't PM me. I am on many different computers and I can only log into this forum from one. Simply use the link to my e-mail - germancarsonly@gmail.com

Going to the E21 and 2002 forums soon. And eBay also. This is an original E30 part and someone will be kicking themselves when it's gone.
