H&R OE Sport front springs

I have a pair of H&R OE sports, part no. 50404. According to the H&R website, they will lower a 325e/i/iS 1" in the front, and a M42 318i/iS 1.25" in the front. $55 shipped obo.



Here they are compared to my Racing Dynamics lowering springs.

Can you put them next to a set of tired OE springs? How much use? I might bite.

Sorry, I don't my original springs to compare them against. I bought these as part of set with vert-specific rear springs. I'm keeping the rear springs though. Both front and rear springs were in really good condition, no rust of anything sort, just some spring pad residue on the top and bottom. Unknown mileage, but judging by the condition, I'd say likely low, and since they were on a vert, not likely tracked or aggressively driven.

FYI these are also the same springs used in the 325ix H&R Sport kit.

A tad wrong on that info. It would make more sense if this spring lowers a HEAVIER car more vs the LIGHTER car.

If you look at the table it shows two different p/n's for the springs.

E30 318i/318is 1990-91
Sport Spring
not cabrio, 16V
Front -1.25
Rear - 1.25

Rear - 1.0

H&R only offers a Sport Spring for the M42 cars while the OE Sport spring is for 325's. I used to rock these springs (still do) with my 318is and the drop was a little bit less than an inch since the 318is is lighter.

I agree on this. It should lower the m42 car less because the engine is lighter, but the total drop also depends on what the original height of the car is. Your point that the 50404 and 50404.55 are different springs may also be correct, however, I've read on M42club that they are the same, which is why I included that info.

In any case, these are 50404.55 springs, so the 1" drop on m20 cars is correct per the H&R website. If you believe that 50404 springs are different, then disregard the 318i/iS info. Thanks for sharing.

There is no 50404, only the 50404-55. The H&R application guide mentions the '91 318is 50404 as a different spring, which is misleading. Same spring, sold as a Sport for a 318is and OE Sport for a 325.

Take the 'lowering amounts' on the H&R application guide with a grain of salt. Even for a 325, there may be a 300 pound weight difference between a lightly equipped '84 325 and a fully optioned '91 325iA. That alone will affect how much the car is lowered by quite a bit when you're talking about such a soft spring.

When people are looking for Sport springs for their '91 318i/iS I always recommend the 29664 'Sport' springs for an '84/'85 318.

Nando is probably right about the stock spring heights too. I've got some 325is springs and 318is springs, I'll check it out.
