Yep. If you have a pre-94 you may want to upgrade to the 94+ spring plates on the intake cam, to help reduce vanos noise. And you'll want the correct software to keep your AFR's in check in the lower RPM range (and get a bit more power down low was well). You can get this from TRM or a number of other places.

You need the special tools to align the cams and turn the vanos sprocket, which are available on ebay and several other places.

                You don't need special tools.

How would you align the cams?

my M50 is from a 94 525i. So can I assume I have the newer spring plates? If so, this is looking more and more like I am going to buy them.

                    Any scoring on the cams?

I would also like to know. Dual Vanos doesn't always need tools pending jobber, but the cams/crank need to be locked for SV.

Great price BTW, just picked up a low mile m50b25 and would go nice with these, but as mentioned it's holiday shopping time :(

I would love to watch you time the motor properly without tools Single or D vanos.

In for pics. Wondering what kinda scoring they have and if theyre really S50 cams or not.

I should have said "you don't need ALL the tools for DV". I got the tool kit last year for a DV job where the cams had to be pulled. The tools aren't needed to replace Vanos, but do for cam replacement on DV. I stand corrected.

Lol. I know all too well. I have been keeping Besian Systems in business lately with all the Vanos rebuilds at the shop :) The m54b30 I bought the tools for had the DISA valve break sending the little metal rod through the engine and wiped out all 4 valves in #3 cyl. Once the problem was found and knew the cams had to come out, bought the tools. Would like the cam removal tool, but that's bling and found a way to replace cams without snapping them (hollow FTL!).
