The 4 spoke that no one likes! Dont know if it is molded one piece.
Actually I am trying to figure out if I can modify the airbag wheel to be heated instead. If there is power to the wheel for the airbag, can it be used for this instead:
    http://www.amazon.com/TruePower-Heat...0262492&sr=8-1
That way, you could leave this cover on all the time. The newer wheels are 16mm nuts and dont use a slip ring. I am not 100% sure how the airbag wheel works - mostly interested in the slip ring or the method that gets two power sources to the wheel (horn is one)

    Thanks for any assistance

OK - a couple odd questions.
      Will it fit on a non-airbag car? I have a 1989 convertible. 22mm nut
Will the slip ring match up for the horn? Is the slip ring removeable/transferable?
      Can you disable the airbag?
Would the 4-spoke, non-airbag wheel center portion take place of the airbag if removed?
(I know you may not know that one)
      Thanks

Here's what I found. The wheel will fit onto non-airbag e30 with a 22mm nut (test car was an '89 325i). However, the back of the wheel rubs against the steering column when it's tightened down. I had to remove the wheel spacer behind the wheel to get enough thread to tighten the nut (see pic below). Perhaps with a thinner than stock spacer it won't rub. The slip ring does match up, so the horn works. Not sure about how this thing is powered or how to go about modifying it. There's just a small plug that connects the wheel to the airbag and another plus that connects the wheel to the steering column.

The short answer is no, it doesn't work in an non-airbag e30. Unless you're willing to modify it.

Wow. I was guessing that there were simply TWO rings for contact. I wonder how the airbag wire doesnt get tangled!
Gee - thanks for checking this. Really thought I was onto something. I guess that if this could be done, someone would have already done it!
        Thanks nonetheless!
