Up for sale is my European 1980 BMW 323i.
I hate selling this car, but I now have 5 cars including 4 BMW’s and it is getting out of control so I must let go of a couple.
I have only had the car for a couple of months and only put about 3k miles on it including a 1k mile drive from NJ where I bought the car from, the car drove perfect all of the way without any problems.
- 95,XXX original miles
- 4-speed tranny (shifts smooth, no problems at all, clutch grabs very well)
- Silver on black cloth
- Vin: WBA18310007215446
The car is in exceptional condition from exterior to interior. You can tell this car was very well cared for.
Exterior/Suspension:
I had the car on a lift and inspected everything and it looks like many things were changed within I would say about 20k miles. The suspension needs NOTHING. Everything is very solid.
The car has hardly ANY rust, the under carriage looks very clean and has NO rust. The only rust I spotted on the car includes little bit on the inner lip of the rear wheel wells and the engine bay. It is all surface rust that should be very easy to repair. None of it is noticeable looking from outside the car unless you focus on the areas where it is at or if you pop the hood.
The driver rear quarter panel has few outward dings from my dumb self having a computer monitor in the trunk not properly tied down and it banged around a few times. I had a PDR guy do my m3 before and it included a few outward dents and the guy made them look like there was never a dent there to begin with. Most PDR shops charge per panel and not per ding so you can probably get all of those fixed for under $50 since they are all within a couple of inches of each other. I was unable to do it because the PDR guy I use lives about 50 miles away and I forgot to do it before I took the plates and insurance off the car.
Paint is great on the car with the exception of a few rock chips on the front in the usual spots and a few cracks on the roof that are hard to notice. The paint is very good and shines really nice.
Interior:
The interior is really nice. The car has BavAuto front leather seat covers and I never even removed them to look at the condition of the seats underneath until now and I was amazed. The seats are in almost mint condition with the exception of a small rip in the usual driver side outside bolster. Passenger seat is mint. I never looked at them because I really like how the leather covers look.
The dash is in good condition with the exception of one small crack which is unnoticeable from the inside.
Headliner is pretty clean with a few stains on the sunroof part. Carpet is in great condition with no stains.
Mechanical:
The car is mechanically sound. I averaged about 20-25 mpg on this car with ALL city driving. It burns a little bit of oil, maybe a quart every 3k miles which is common. I was told a valve adjustment would eliminate this problem, but I did not really care since it is no big deal. Car starts up fine even when it was about 20F at one point, and does not have the very common hot start problem E21’s are know for having.
Modifications:
The car rides on Koni suspension (shocks and springs) which is in great condition and rides very well. These cars are known for major body lean and while this thing still leans, it is very much improved.
Bavarian 8mm sparkplug wires.
Momo steering wheel. This thing feels great, and looks good too.
The bavauto leather seat covers
Blaupunkt CD player with hookup for cd/mp3/walkman (anything with a headphone jack) The car also has new blaupunkt 6.5” speakers in the rear. The audio is really nice, but front speakers could use replacement soon because they have the crack sound. I have the fade about 75% to the rear so the front do not crack.
Gauges displaying oil pressure, oil temp, and voltage
And the 75rwhp adder, a B&M shift knob
Maintenance:
The PO had the following done within about 8k miles.
new plugs
new cap
new rotor
new breather hose
new speedo cable
new k&n filter
1 Year old Energizer battery
I have done these within last 20 miles (yes twenty miles) I did all of this right before I took the registration and insurance off this car.
New Brakes (front brembo rotors/pads, rear pads) stops really nice
New thermostat
New drive belt
New fuel filter including new hoses and clamps
All 4 new tires in 185/70/13 (mounted/balanced)
Fresh oil change and coolant flush.
General Info:
Being an owner of e30’s and e36’s (and driven all kinds of others) I must say this car is one of the funnest BMW’s I have ever driven. Being so light it is very responsive and handles very well. The car is plain and simple, CAR AND DRIVER no electronics controlling anything, makes you feel like one with the road.
Car comes with a few of extras including a front leather bra, rear pop out windows, and a Hayne’s repair manual. Car also come with many original books and manuals. I also have a few records of maintenance done by the first owner in the home country, Germany.
This car will not disappoint you. It will make a great daily driver, weekend car and with some work the car has great potential to be an autocross machine, or a full out race car.
Car has been garage kept by me and the previous owner. I did not ask if the owner before him did as well, but I am almost sure he did.
Sorry for the really really long write up, but I want to make sure that I list all of the information I know about this car so there is no confusions.
Here is the CARFAX if anyone is interested http://i-techdevelopment.com/car_stu...0007215446.pdf
